Yes, it is possible to AI mini mares. I do artificial insemenation on my own mares. Used to do it a lot, but now I only do it if I have a mare has a cervix that isn't opening as it should to allow the semen to get where it belongs. I don't do shipped semen. I only use semen from my own stallions. I am not sure what you mean by "how mini breeders get outside mares"?

I never see ads for stallion that "ship semen" so I thought that maybe mini mares were too small to inseminate or something. I see ads for big horses all the time that ship chilled and frozen, so I was just wondering about minis. I guess if they can do AI with dogs they can do AI with minis!! Silly me. I just needed to thnk about it a little longet I guess.

Not silly at all. I could be wrong but I think it's only been 2-3 years that the registries have begun to accept AI foals for registration. That's one thing that held people back. The other thing is that not too many mini breeders have the equipment for this and if you don't live near a big vet facility then your vet is not likely to have the equipment for mini AI either. Like everything else in the world people wait to see if there is going to be a need for a service or product. The availability of mini equipment, and this includes AI, is just beginning to catch up with the rest of the horse world.

bigger farms do more ai then most people realize or at least more then i realized. My neighbor does ai and did it for years for a big mini farm. You do have to pay an extra yearly fee with the registries to be able to do AI. I did have someone inquire about getting shipped semen from my coowned stallion Crunch. But by the time I paid for the AI and the xtra fees to the registry it was just too exspensive for both of us.

My neighbors said the key to successful AI is the person on the mare end knowing what they are doing
