Not to picture show... just for you own personal use? Do you take any of them to keep? I have started taking pictures of my models in hopes of getting one of those collector CD's. Just to keep track of them and how much they are worth...... am I the only "weirdo"....

I've thought about starting a book with photos and details on each one I have. It would take a LOT of pictures. I was thinking it would be nice to have a shot from each side that shows any marks, the year it was purchased, the model #, special run info.... all that stuff.

I just haven't done one since I spend a lot of time doing all this paperwork for my real horses.

I used to take pics of my models...here is one photo of one of them:

This model horse is about 3" tall (similar to a Breyer StableMate) and a resin cast of a sculpture by Karen Gerhardt and painted by the talented Sarah Minkiewicz-Breunig.

I really enjoyed making the models look "life size" and lifelike and I think I came close, here...(doesn't hurt that the subject is a true work of art).

Not bad Liz! And I'm truly impressed that you have an "Alessan" (I've got one unpainted in my closet that I customized) and painted by the incomparable Sarah Mink no less! :new_shocked: Wow. Next time make sure there's no large blades of grass in the background to give away scale and maybe try some fine sand for in-scale footing. Great camera though, the focus is very clear and the color is wonderful. You did a good job.

One good reason to take pictures of your collection is to document it for insurance purposes. Put the photos on a disc and put it in a safety deposit box or firesafe and you can prove what you had if there's a fire or other loss.

I do keep pics of my Breyer collection just for myself...sort of a photo record. None of them are safe anymore though...not since I have started customizing. hehehe I am just a newbie with it, but am really enjoying trying to make basic models look real...

Anyone reccognize this boy from his live counterpart?

I still have about 150 or so regular Breyers, but most of those willbe for sale as soon as I finish cataloging them. After discovering resins and customs...the plain ones just don't hold my interest anymore. After 22 years collecting, that is hard to admit. I think I will keep a few special ones...and ALL of my miniature models!!

PS, Nootka, WOW....I am in awe!!!

I use to take pics of each one of mine and print it out with all the info on it (i've got about 150)...I got that breyer collectories CD and it's great - it has a pic of the model already in it, plus you can add your own pic if you want. I highly recomend the CD - it's much easier to keep track of them and print out lists.

I have a detailed chart of my breyers (which i am selling right now due to legal costs) for myself as well as for insurance purposes....can you imagine trying to remember everything you have in your collection if there were a fire or tornado? i personally have a terrible memory so i have lists... jennifer :saludando:

edited for spelling!

Leia, yeah, I could have been a little more selective w/the background, but not sure about the sand. I don't know how much finer I could find it than that. Still, I thought it turned out good considering it was just my digital camera (I think I got lucky).

You're right about the insurance, though, that way you have a reference for other people to appraise the value if there is a question (some of these resins and such are pretty much one of a kind, original pieces of art.).

Even if you're not "showing" them, to have the photos is good.

Here are a bunch of my older horses as well as models I did for sale or for custom (back when we called them r/r/h's!) I still have a bunch but don't paint or show anymore - maybe I will again one of these days... I haven't got a "set up" for photos anywhere, but once in awhile I play around with pictures.

Oh man I have so many of those guys.... Boxes too. Has anyone seen the new mini breyers? Their names escape me (how embarrassing!) but they are a chestnut pinto stud and a black pinto stud. I have seen the owners add up around here. I think Magic Man is one. I am not sure off top of my head. My mom got them for me this Christmas right after I lost McKeever because they were minis and they had blue eyes. I almost cried. They are beautiful.

Anyways, I have a bunch and I have my moms old collection too and they have a lot of centimental value to me. I wonder how one would work with Breyer. I am very into sculpting. I just sculpted a bronze Arab last semester. It was cast in Bronze. I should try to costomize some myself as well. I dont know much about what I need to do so.

It did turn out well!

: Better than anything I've taken that's for sure. The sand was fine enough, it's the plant material mixed in with it that's out of scale. Many people use bags of washed beach sand like you can buy at the craft stores or the ballast sold in model train shops.

I haven't cared enough to set up a proper photo backdrop and footing, etc. I'm so busy with live model shows, mini shows, AND CDE's that the thought of photo showing is enough to make me blanch. :new_shocked: :517: So I just take documentation pictures in which the color is not nearly as nice as yours.
