When did AMHR start requiring that the side shots (one side anyway) have to have the horses' head turned towards the camera with the forelock aside? Seems strange that would be a requirement since you have to send in a picture from the front with the forelock pulled aside showing the face.

It is BOTH sides with the head turned towards you...that makes it hard when you try and take pictures by yourself....who knows why..maybe cause you see the face on the papers

I got caught on this too

It was changed I believe a few months back. Some say it was longer but it wasnt. I cannot believe how hard it is to get a foal to look at the camera and still get a side shot. Drives me up a wall. To get the foal to turn to the camera makes them want to walk tword the camera. I dont get it as I thought the head shot was to identify the head so it doesnt make sense to me. I just do the best I can but my pics look bad I have to say LOL

Just an addittional warning they are now also being very picky about the hooves not being in grass the horse not walking etc. Which is a good thing because there were some pretty shoddy pics going through.

I got caught on this also. Although the paperwork I got back didn't have the 'head' shot on a side view the office just had to have. So that was weird. Timeline, somewhere around February-March they made the change, but I didn't know about it.

If you have a farrier or a vet visit, ask them to take the picture while you pose the animal.

I just got the papers on a new registration with a letter about the requirements. Sure didn't know about them before I sent the paperwork in! One picture, the horse 'sort of' has his head facing the camera, so I guess it worked this time.

I registered all my foals this year without knowing about the requirement and the paperwork went through. Like Kay said, trying to get a foal to just turn it's head and not walk towards you is almost impossible!?

We need to have a representative from AMHR on this Forum who can apprise us of any new registration requirements.

Unfortuantly you have to rely on the Journal to receive any information. I don't see the big deal about having notifications such as these online????? All I hear is you can't rely for people to look at information online. Guess what we live in a digital world now. AMHR's site IMO needs a good update

I like the way AMHA does it. They really do keep you UTD like on Facebook but their site is really UTD as well.

I know it has been absurd for me to get things taken care with AMHR papers. I have sent in photos of one horse 3 times!!!

The same photos were happily accepted by the AMHA but not the AMHR

I have no problems sending in photos, but it is getting a little silly now. And yes, some of these horses already have temp photos on file.

That requirement has been on the website description of photo requirements since sometime in 2008. I don't know as they were following it precisely at that time, but the requirement was there at that time. I know that, because when I got some little boys that fall I was helping the breeder take their registration photos and I mentioned to her that we needed one side photo with the head turned--and I told her that only because I had just recently read it on the website....she wasn't aware of the change at that time & took some extra photos of her other foals (once she'd already taken registration photos of) so that she'd have photos that met the requirements. So yes, Kay, the requirements have definitely been posted on the website a lot longer than "a few months"! When in 2008 the change was made I don't know--I just know that it was there in Aug/early Sept. of that year.

yellowrose, it is only one side that needs to have the head turned--not both sides. Note the bolded portion in the wording below:

Left Side – full standing left profile from ears to hooves and nose to tail; in either right or left side photos, animals head should be turned toward photographer to show full face and forelock should be off to one

side so that face markings are not obscured; legs should be positioned so that the inside of the right side

legs show – not placed together as they might be in setting up to show in the ring; animal should be

standing on a surface that allows full view of hooves; head should not be turned away from

photographer; the majority of the photo should be of the animal being registered. The animal may have a

halter on and should be groomed/clean so that color and markings show correctly.

Right Side – full standing right profile from ears to hooves and nose to tail; in either right or left side

photos, animals head should be turned toward photographer to show full face and forelock should be offto one side so that face markings are not obscured; legs should be positioned so that the inside of the right

side legs show – not placed together as they might be in setting up to show in the ring; animal should be

standing on a surface that allows full view of hooves; head should not be turned away from

photographer; the majority of the photo should be of the animal being registered. The animal may have a

halter on and should be groomed/clean so that color and markings show correctly.
