I received this update on Devon yesterday evening. Devon is now up and walking some, albeit slowly, but able to walk. The challenge he is facing at the moment is that for some reason the brain is not transmitting, when he is walking, to be able to change directions. The second thing that has surfaced at this point is that visually looking at numbers, such as a clock, is not registering at all. Hopefully this will change with his rehab and with time.

Oh, I am sorry to hear this. I guess I have missed a post on what happened to him to begin with. It sounds very difficult.

I hope for a full recovery for him soon.

I was going to call you tonite Danielle..

If that is all he has going on I still think he is extremely lucky considering the very first few hours after the accident where incredibly grim. He is young and strong and I think the progress so far is a testiment to the care, love and prayers of his immediate family and his friends.

Go Devon...you've come a long way in 2 weeks buddy...I'm pulling for you.

Danielle, do you have an idea how much longer he will be in? I'd llike to go see him early next week ..

Kim

Thank God he is on his way again... I'm anxiously looking forward to the next update and as always, am hoping he continues to improve.

This is wonderful...one baby step at a time....pretty soon he will be running circles....all good things take time...and Thank God...he has a lot of time a head of him....

Dear Danielle,

I am not surprised that things are showing up, it hasn't been that long since he was in a coma. His brain took a hard wack.

When I broke out the windshield with the back of my head (I was on the outside of the car) I found that I couldn't read, it was just a mess of color and waves. If I tried too hard to figure it out I ended up very dizzy and eventually with a migraine. It took awhile (roughly 6 months or more) to regain the ability to read. The neurologists say there is "something" with the transmission in my brain but it has clear up enough.

I wish Devon well and hope for a full recovery.

Kim, I an not sure when he will be coming home. Val told me that the nurses from the ICU came to see him on Friday and said "we have come to see our miracle man". They didn't have much hope he would pull out of this but HE DID!!!

hope he has a complete recovery

I have first hand experience with my son 3 yrs ago run over by a car with almost dying in a coma for 4 days and suffering from a brain injury and a very badly broken leg and paralized on one side it took about 1 year before his rehab was complete about 4 mos resident rehab then about 5 mos outpatient rehab.

I'm thrilled to say today he is recovered (still has some problems ) he will not run again due to the bad break in his leg and rods and pins nor has his sense of smell ever returned but he is doing well and working and getting on with his life.

So its a long road and a hard one at times but they say you can have improvement on brain injuries for up to 2 years

My son at first after the coma was repeating things would forget he just told you that went on for a month or so but went away. He could not even hold a pencil and had problems with one eye wondering and blurriness

It is a hard road as a parent but they can come through and return to themselves so hang in there

Sending my prayers
