Hey Just Me,

I want you to know that your farm is not the only farm with miniature horses in a rescue situation. There was a seizure just recently and several other farms are in trouble due to this drought. I apologize for my miscommunication! Yours were surrendered, YES and there are other farms involved whose miniature horses were seized. My post was not in reference to the voluntarily surrendered horses!!! I am so sorry if you took it that way. There are other horses involved here that you may not be aware of right now.

I don't get the local channels due to our rural location so I had no idea prior to yesterday that any of this had happened! Someone at work asked me what I knew about miniature horses being siezed.... and I had no idea what they were talking about....there are apparently other miniature horse farms all across East Texas that cannot afford hay. This is epidemic!

I absolutely applaud your voluntary surrender and I understand fully the circumstances. I am working all the overtime I can get just to afford my feed bill during this second year of drought and hay shortage.

I live very close to safe haven and I went this morning and made a $500 donation specifically for the feed and care of the miniature horses at the rescue. There are others due to arrive from other counties in East Texas, and this is going to be a bad year.

I also took 6 halters, 8 portable panels, a gate, a low water trough, 11 ground feeders, and 7 feed buckets to Safe Haven so that these miniature horses can be helped.

I completely empathize with your situation and I want you to know that WE ARE HERE TO HELP.

We still need DONATIONS to help the rescues all across this drought stricken region. We need foster homes that are willing to help horses....it seems every applicant wants mares and nobody wants to foster the stallions. PLEASE HELP and email CMHR's kaykay with your pledge. Also please pray for rain and better hay seasons in the years to come.

((((HUGS))))) to Just Us. You've made some heart wrenching decisions and I am so sorry that this happened to you.

Lauralee

Edited to correct "just us" to "just me"....heaven help me today I can't even type the title correctly (sigh)

Just saw the horses they are all lovely , absolutely NOT in a bad shape some are even to fat.

All of them are sweet, friendly, good mannered darlings.

Again very nice horses.

:saludando: Hello from NE Wisconsin

I've been working with local farmers to see if they'll set aside some of this year's bumper crop for mini folks in droubt affected areas.

My only "catch" is finding a transporter who's willing to transport "small squares". If they're tarped, the load can shift. Due to that fact, the cost per LOADED MILE increases.

NOW, if folks would take 750-lb square bales (I always check for quality and if they're bound tight as a fiddle string) the price up here is $50 per "big square bale".

IF ANYONE NEEDS HAY, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, THEN I'LL HAVE MORE CONCRETE INFO FOR THE FARMERS AND TRANSPORTERS.

By the way, the drivers whom I've interviewed DO NOT charge for DROP SHIPMENTS to separate destinations.

At the moment, someone in Florida wants only 50 bales right now......then ship loads beginning in November (when the hay won't mold). Tried every way I could to deliver 50 bales "cost effectively".

Now, if mini folks want to work together and submit an order....thus sharing the shipping cost, I'll be happy to help. I understand folks' dilemma and the resulting effect on minis....sure hope we can work together.

Thanks.

Cindy

I just read the other post and I am so sorry to hear what she has gone through. Itmust have been heart wrenching to have to give up those horses.

I have a Working Farm forum and I am aware of the seriousness of the drought in TX from our members posts there. Sadly, if it wasn't for the gas prices being so inflated, this drought wouldn't be affecting quite as many - the inflation of prcies has made it impossible for some people to continue their operations.

Just Me, I'm so sorry about your situation. I wish you and all your neighbors some relief soon.
