For those of you who take pictures of your horses on your own, what type of camera do you use? I want one that is 14+ mp and $300 or under. Best buy is having some great sales, but I don't know which one to choose! Any opinions?

Thank you!

I just bought a Kodak easy share from QVC ( I never do that so was leary) and I love it. Its easy to use and has tons of options to choose from. Mine was only $100, its 10mp and 10x opt zoom. My sister has the big bro to this camera and I loved using it. You are right to check sales, check the shopping sites too, alot offer value pay. Oh, if you use those sites, search for coupons and promo codes too.

I just bought a Canon PowerShot sx120is for $200 and it is WELL worth the money. I know it's not 14MP (it's 10) but it has a 10x zoom and way, way cheaper. I don't find the MP matters too much, as the 10 MP is just fine.

I like it's burst mode (taking several pictures quickly) for action shots, it's pretty fast. It's a small, versatile camera that so far, is working great for me. The video is okay, too...

Here is video it takes:

and action photos (cropped and resized way down of course):

I dunno, I was very pleased with this camera for the price.

Thank you both for your replies, it is greatly appreciated! Andrea, that seems like a heck of a deal to me-I will definitely be checking it out. Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE Quake? Now THAT is a good looking horse!!

I have a DEAL for you. Go to your local Wal Mart and buy the Nikon 15 mp camera for 279.00...

Just used it this last weekend cause I thought I'd lost my Canon 20 mp. Ha found it in the glove box center of my car.

Anyway, I LOVED the Nikon. Light, EASY to handle, SUPER easy to work. ZOOM is wonderful. I got allllll my horses in the ring that I wanted to get and my camera cost 400.00. I WISH I'd gotten the Nikon in the first place.... You can EVEN go on line and order it and they'll ship it to your house.

REALLY you'll LOVE this camera. IMHO!!!!! TJ

I didn't read the directions, my friend loaded the batteries and the memory card and we just started shooting pics that's how easy it was to figure out. Good Luck.

When you find whatever camera you like (my aunt had gotten the version I bought, I liked it!) spend some time online searching for a good deal. I got mine on eBay after looking carefully at price plus shipping, and bid on a couple until I got the best deal.

Thanks for the kind words about Quake, he's my bud!

Andrea

Canon all the way! IMO, you will get the best image quality and the most natural colors. I own two Canons. One that I researched and then purchased and then another I won through a contest. Someday in the far off future when I get an SLR it's going to be a Canon

I've been shopping for a while for a new digital camera and finally took the plunge. I just ordered the Canon Powershot SX20 IS, hopefully i'll like it.

Tab you have beautiful photos!

I have a Nikon D40 but the original lens didn't zoom in enough so I upgraded to a much larger zoom lens. I know nothing about photography but this is so easy, just point and shoot. You can look at my website 90% of the photos were taken with this camera.

Tab***Those are beautiful photos.

Thank you Debbie, I love all of the photos on your site! It seems like those are the two best to choose between. Will it be Nikon or Canon?
