Okay, my guy was overweight so i started him on cinnamon just after these first 2 pictures and his first clip.

Then, he developed laminitis a couple weeks later, so we reduced his grain (which was previously upped), reduced his hay, no grass (although he does have a muzzle which we will use when he's ready to go back to pasture) and I think we are on the right track!

Had blood work done on him because of laminitis. Results came back and vet said cushings due to low thyroid, high IR and poor cortisol rhythm. I can't see cushings myself after all the reading that i have been doing. however, I can agree with IR so that's why i'm thinking remission. Have also read that if you treat IR, thyroid can fall into place.

It seems to me that this change in diet has helped him quite a bit (in terms of weight) in just about a month's time and I don't want to start him on all types of medications if his problem can be changed by mostly diet alone.

I'm thinking of starting Remission for laminitis and IR, but unsure if I should start Pergolide and/or Thyro-L as wondering if this can all be cleared up with his change in diet /maintenance?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Join the yahoo group called Equine Cushings. They have an extremely large amount of information about IR and Cushings, and the people in the group are extremely helpful. With somewhere over 7000 members, there is always someone on who can answer questions.

He looks like he has lost on the cinnamon. He is a handsome one... I hope you get him regulated...

I have to say I love your barn and fencing!!

There are a couple of people on here that are involved in that group and I can tell you the cinnamon DOES work.

I will updating pics soon again on my 'fluffy' mare that I started documenting last fall! There are a couple of surprizes involved!

It looks like you are certainly on the right track, and I would keep him on the thyroid meds and cinnamon and watch his diet- he is looking better already! I noticed a difference in just days once I added the cinnamon......

I have a very overweight little man and he lives on fresh air! Could someone tell me how much Cinnamon everyone uses please?

Your boy looks excellent - well done!
