So hypithetically speaking..lol.. how much would it cost to get a horse shipped from WA. to OH? I know that is a huge distance so I have a feeling its going to be a lot but I really would like to know how much so I can stop looking at this one horse. LOL.

Back when gas was high in October, i paid $390 to have a horse shipped 777 miles (for reference) which comes out to about .50 cents a mile.

With fuel prices down now right now to under or around $2..jump on it and get them shipped NOW if you need to before may comes and diesel its near $4 agian.

Sharrway has the BEST rates too and are my favorite to use, Hauled Right also has good rates although sharron and wayne have always given me the best rate of the two.

I just looked up the milage. it would be about 2,400 miles. so if its about .50 a mile thats about the price i thought it would be around.

my GUESS is it will cost you at least $600-$700 or more (been a year or two since i called around but that's what i was getting back then..and the gas was probably about what it is now) depending on who you hire. Sometimes you find someone a lot cheaper but you really need to look around for that.

I have a client that bought a horse in AZ and is having it shipped here (Ohio) for training. I looked it up and it is 1803.58 miles and she was quoted $700 from Sharrway, that's about $0.39 per mile. Hope that helps give you an idea.

Next time I have a horse shipped, I will ONLY use one of the shippers people here on the forum recommend over and over....I found a shipper on UShip who said all the right things, had decent online feedback from lots of customers, but transported my horses taking a day and a half longer than they said they would, and had a low price (not the lowest, but decent). When the horses got here, they did not appear to have been watered as they were so dehydrated and could only dribble when they tried to go. It was AUGUST and fairly hot. I was pretty ticked off, but what can you do at that point? Thank God that was not a longer distance, who knows how they would have done?

I shipped a horse 1,000 miles last fall when gas was high and it cost $750. Which was about $250 more than it cost me a year prior at about the same distance.

But, it was a direct route and the horse was delivered in less than 48 hours from the time of pick up.

Thank you for your input. I guess I need to really think about it and just call a hauler and see. Has anyone had a horse hauled that distance? What about if the horse is pregnant?

I've had horses hauled from as far as SC (I'm in Az). Never a pregnant one, how far along is she? I'm sure if you go with a well recomended hauler (I love Hauled Wright!) should be fine as long as she has more than a couple months to go... not sure I'd want to haul one who's due sooner, but since I've never looked into it, I don't know ;)

If you can be flexible with dates you can sometimes find hauls where they are transporting other animals, can combine with your pick-up/drop and same some money for you ------ plus make their own trip more economical/profitable.

This isn't always possible but, a thought.

I've been quoted a wide range of prices when shipping. To ship a horse from LA to CA this next month I was quoted from $700 to $1400. I'm not sure the miles but it's a long way! The mare I'm shipping is pregnant and due in May so it was doubly important to me to check on things like - how often they stop, what happens overnight, how the horses travel, etc. I'm not worried about my mare traveling when preg, she will have a couple months to go and moat of them seem to travel easily.

Good luck!
