Hello,

I would like to make a new cover for the mini horse 4-H project book we are going to use this year. It has been photo copied so many times the pics. are really tacky. So I atleast want to get the cover changed before it is distributed.

Here's were I need help - I can never decide what pics. to use and I'm not sure what I'm aloud to pull from the net to use. I don't think I should use pictures of our mini's but I do have a cute one w/ my 2yr old and our large mini. ( I'll try to add it to my avatar)

SO I'm looking for some help!

The title is - Introduction to the Miniature Horse-

I thought about using a collage type picture of different things you can do with a mini and the main middle picture being a Mini and a child.

And then maybe the more practical thing to do, at this time, is Just use 1 majestic looking picture or drawing of a mini.

So I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. If I get a good turn out with mini's as a project this year, I'll be reworking the books alittle and probably be beggin' for more help.

edited to add that I can't seem to get my avatar to change I use photobucket, I thought I did it right but it just gives me a Error message. Can't figure it out???

so here's my favorite kid pics I may be a little barn blind - but they are precious.

I posted a picture on this forum of a mini being ridden (and held) by a small child. It is on the thread "minis in the snow, with kids". You could use that if you want a mini and child.

You are welcome to use the ones on my site. The ones that are Liz McMillan pics, though, I think you have to be sure to leave her signature on them, other than that should be able to use them for this project.

The photo you posted is really cute but I am guessing you need a "portrait" not "landscape" orientation? Perhaps someone on this forum could edit that one to the shape you need. Maybe just the horse's head and the child???

You mean like this? Hope you dont mind ..

Thanks Leeana - I don't mind at all!!

I've been trying to learn a new photo program - but it has taking a back seat to getting a jump start for this years fair.

Coco is doing great! Wyatt is enjoying him and they have all settled in togethere nicely. I'll get pictures for you soon.

Thanks for everyone's offer.

Although I love that picture above I'd feel funny about using it at this point. If I rework and update the project book then I'll be adding info. and adding pictures ( maybe then I'd use it on a page that talks about them being pets and if properly handled they are born with a gentle nature, yadda, yadda, yadda)

I've looked thru some of the site and they are all really good pictures and beautiful horses! I'm very undecisive and need help! -- -Anyone wanna nominate a picture or 2???

Post your reccomended pictures OR Drawings - for the cover of the 4-H Booklet. (Intro. to the Mini Horse)

and then I'll make a poll or some how take a vote on what pics to use. Should be do-able?

I'll atleast get it narrowed down to 3 or so and let the kids I'm working with choose.

I know every one is busy with thier own agenda's which I why I come here where I can read about or talk about my horsey things with people who have the same interest, when I can fit it in. And I know I'll get better feed back than discussing it with my local non mini friends. Thanks for being here!!

Just another option, i know how our local fair does there books every year and they have a bunch of the kids draw out the front cover with fair designs ext. Maybe you could have the kids have a drawing/coloring contest and then pick one of those for the cover?

You could have them do something, for example, draw as many things on one page a you can of all the things you can do with a mini OR draw a photo of what they do with their mini. That would be fun and different

I will Definately have to Keep track of these pictures that are posted here, if not for the cover but for the furture books. I plan on updating the book - the intro to minis for next year.

Then I want to work on the training and driving booklets, then there is a jumping booklet I won't change much in it but it would look alot nicer with new pictures. Of course this all depends on how well we are excepted and how many kids join. Some peps are just not liking us little guys pushing are way in,lol. I just hope that list of 15 kids follow thru and take the project.

I'll also track this thread so I can refer back when working on the different booklets. So please only offer pictures that you won't mind going into a booklet for 4-H kids at anytime in the furture. I volunteered to do this for the mini kids in our county who were limited to showmanship because they don't have riding horses. It won't be a published booklet or anything like that strictly non-profit.

Thanks

I just had a thought!

Since the booklets are just photo copies they won't be in color! So I'll need pictures that revert to black and white, and will photo copy well.

Wonder if that will limit what pictures I can use?? HUMMMM???

Brat:

If you can save the pictures to a cd I will get them copied and printed in color. I think I can anyway.

I think they would be good hand-outs of the various types and activities that minis can be involved in.

Will definitely spark interest.

You collect them for me on a disk and I will take it from there..... I think the show setting will be inspiring for your new club members. ALSO, how about getting an album together and saving the mini journals to take to some meetings and just let the kids look them over.

Don't let them get away--I would do it myself but I don't know how. I know I can print from a cd on a Kodak picture maker. Can also edit for size and a variety of other things I just can't get them from the computer screen to the cd. duh

eagles ring mini - Thank you! They look like they should photo copy well!

Thank you for helping me and my 4-H'ers on getting a mini program - We sure hope it gets the turn out we are expecting. I plan on using all your above pics. since they are 3 different things and probably will put them inside the booklet, in each section.

With my limited editing exp. I think I will just use a plain single Mini as the cover page for this year. I still have to work at it!

But thank you and as I re-type the books I'll be adding pics!

Thanks!

Only one suggestion on the subject matter. Here in the state of NH for 4-H you can't be a member until you are 8 years old so you might want to make sure the kids you use are at least 8 if it is the same for your state. Sure wish the kids here could be younger but that is the rule in NH.

I think a collarge picture of what different things can be done with a mini would be great.

I would also love to see a copy of the book you are going to be using. I have a 4-H miniature horse club and we don't have much in the state to go by but big horse stuff as far as 4-H material goes.

Hi Diana,

You've made a very good point, I had thought about that too.

But I haven't found any pics. to use yet and don't want to use my own. I found a great pic. of Boones little Buckeroo but it was to small - didn't edit well and I'm not sure that I'd even be aloud to use it.

Sorry it took so long but here are the edits I did of your son and his pony. I tried to do something else, but still haven't figured it all out yet. Hope you like 'em.
