Ok, HERE is what the previous owner instructed ...

NEW FOALS TO 2 YEARS OF AGE :

1.Deworm with Panacur at 2 weeks of age

2.Thereafter rotate every 4 weeks with Strongid and Panacur

3.At 8 Months of age introduce Ivermectin and Ivermectin + Praziquantel into the rotation as used in the adult Schedule

ADULT SCHEDULE

Jan-Feb = Strongid

Mar-Apr = Ivermectin/Praziquantel

May-Jun = Strongid

July-Aug = Ivermectin

Sept-Oct = Strongid

Nov-Dec = Ivermectin/Praziquantel

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Does this sound right ? Is this a good schedule to use ? Good choice of dewormers ?
I know that TSC sells Ivermectin, but do they sell Strongid and Praziquantel and Panacur ?
What I do is for horses up to 18mos of age, deworm every 4 weeks. After 18mos of age, deworm every 6-8wks. I deworm with Ivermectin each time except that I use an Ivermectin "Gold" product (in case of tapes) once a year instead of the plain ivermectin.
The rotation given you should be effective and yes TSC sells all of these. My only suggestions would be change panacur to strongid and have your vet do a fecal exam at least once a year to confirm the rotation is working.
It will NOT get encysted small strongyles that will kill your horse.
It will NOT get Tapeworms.
I am not sure about bots.
As said, it is NOT effective.
Please follow the link and see what is there, your horse needs a faecal and it needs the panacur five day course ASAP- nothing else will get encysteds.
Please excuse my confusion ...
But I just want to have clarified exactly what I'm suppose to do ..
So here's what I do NOW :
Fenbendazole 5 day.
Wait ten days (life cycle of most worms)
Worm with Ivermectin
Wait ten days
Worm with Praziquantel (Tapeworms)
This should clear any extra worms that have been hanging on
And THEN what ?
Do I follow the schedule the previous owner gave me :
Thereafter rotate every 4 weeks with Strongid and Panacur
At 8 Months of age introduce Ivermectin and Ivermectin + Praziquantel into the rotation as used in the adult Schedule
* MINUS the Panacur then ?
Sorry - I guess I need the entire thing laid out to me
You can worm with praziquantel and Ivermectin combined, ten days after the five day course, then just use Ivermectin every eight weeks until the next time around.
There is absolutely NO need or reason to rotate wormers there is no proven resistance to Ivermectin, it is merely that Ivermectin does not clear Tapes or Encysteds, so once a year (at least) you need to clear these out.
You need to check with an expert (your Vet MIGHT know) as to the necessity to deTape and de Encysted more than once a year in your area, I do both twice yearly.
Apart from that just stick to Ivermectin.
Who is your vet?
I know there is a vet in our area that reccomends using QUEST dewormer. Do NOT use Quest on a mini, it can kill them.
Well - since i just got Star - I don't "officially" have a vet for her yet. My dog/cat vet is Dr.Miller in Meyersdale. But he doesn't deal with equine. So I have to go with Somerset - Laurel Highlands. I'm not aware of any others that are local that deal with equine. There's one guy who's suppose to be really good with horses - he's in Berlin I think, but now he's dealing with race horses, and I don't think he does farm calls anymore.
