I'm terrible at crafting. My intentions are good but I usually end up paying a fortune for supplies, then making a mess.

In past years when I have made such attempts, I always ended up making things that cost a huge fortune to ship!

I was trying to think of somethings maybe for next year to craft that will be light weight, easy to make, but still nice.

Ideas?

A couple of years ago, hubby and I made little christmas present packages out of plastic canvas using a needle and red and green yarn. We tied a bow around them, and sent them off as Christmas ornaments. Hadn't thought about them for years, as we had a big tree the last few years and used all the ornaments that came with it, snowman theme. Well this year I decided to down play the decorations, and pulled out only my table top tree, and went looking for my old decorations that dated back some thirty years. In the box I found the old plastic present decorations that we made together and put them on my tree. They are very light weight and fun to make. you only need a little bit of plastic canvas bought at your local craft supply and some yarn, you can also make ginger bread houses and ginger bread men to decorate with or send as gifts. Well when hubby came home from work and saw the tree with all the old decorations his eyes welled up with good memories. It made my day and my Christmas. Have fun making things for next year, and make some memories.

The only thing I did this year... was have some of my Art printed on Tote bags and a mouse pad. They were cheap to ship through the mail, as they could fit in those small priority boxes.

You can hand make Ornaments, Pot holders, aprons, place-mats and so on. All easy to ship.

I hand wove some Christmas scarves in combinations of green and red and off white and gold and silver. I think everyone liked them. Of course I had to give them at the beginning of the holiday season. I also made a few appliques shirts for the grandkids and my grandson, Noah, got two new diabetes pump bags made in Christmas prints.

I didn't make anything personally this year but have in the past. But I did purchase some art/crating from another forum member to give as a gift. And 2 years ago I purchased, again from a forum member, some beautiful handmade soaps that were customized with a picture of my friends horses in them. They were really cool! And this years gift is awesome, I just can't say any more about here until after Christmas.

RiverRose, I love that story!

I told myself that this year, I was NOT making Christmas gifts!!! NO WAY....

Well, somehow I talked myself into doing a couple of things....but one year, I went all out. Everyone got leather belts, or some kind of decoration out of leather, and my good friends who had horses, got tack that I made. It was nuts though..I was in my workshop until late in the night on Christmas Eve, and after that Christmas, I said not again!

Last year I made my Mom, 2 sisters and sister-in-law calendars. Went through ALL the pictures we had here from the last year (my Mom takes thousands of pictures, literally), and did it month by month. However many pictures on that month was determined by the happenings(pictures) from the previous year, some months only have 6 or 8, while others had close to 20. They all LOVED them last year, but I told them there was no way I was making them again.....and then they asked me for them this fall.....sooooooo I have to run and finish my calendars!

Ok, so it's not a 'craft' per say, but it's as crafty as I get!

Last year, I made pillowcases for my neice and nephew. This year, I made pillowcases for my quilt guild, and we gave them to local charities.

Otherwise, this year was a boughten year.
