I've been watching and appreciating John Stossel for years. He so often gives a bit of 'straight' talk when you'll find it nowhere else, at least on one of the 'original big three' networks.

Tonight was no exception. He touched not just upon the presidential race, but other political messiness. He is even-handed in shining his light; one subject I found most disturbing tonight was about the 'so-called' political finance reform(a bill co-sponsored by John McCain), and how the 'unintended consequences' that came along with it actually HURT many 'small' but sincere 'political' efforts, scaring off volunteers in such efforts.(Now I understand why Obama opted out--so he could take $$$$ in, hand over fist, from Hollywood celebrities and other starry-eyed liberals who are visualizing a 'second coming'....).

Another eye-opening segment was about farm subsidies, and how the majority of them help NOT the 'small family farm', but the biggest of the big/richest of the rich. The two Congresspersons (after turndowns from 70 others who voted for the latest one, Obama included, who refused to speak about it) gave the feeblest of feeble rationalizations for supporting it---and most frighteningly, when Stossel cited New Zealand, who ended farm subsidies over huge protest and predictions of dire consequences, then found production increased expotentially, and asked if they thought that if subsidy 'worked so well, should our gov't. just subsidize 'everything', the woman narrowed her eyes and him and said that she would say to him--that he shouldn't 'push us'!!!! Does that scare YOU? It surely did me! Can you say, "SOCIALISM"???????

I didn't watch it I forgot it was going to be on. I had wanted to because John Stossel is usually very fair and reports the facts that don't lean one way or the other. He calls a spade a spade.

From living in farm country and seeing the listings in the local paper of how much the local farmers get as a subsidy; I didn't need to watch that part to know it is broken and has been for years!

The big corporate farms get the BIG $$ and the little guy gets peanuts. It should be stopped now and forever. I have said for years if a farmer can't make it farming without a handout from the government he shouldn't be farming.

The bill to fix the problem with campaign finances just made the situation worse. It should go away also. Put in term limits and a flat tax or fair tax, end of the lobbyist who stuff the politicians pockets.

yes, I too watched it or rather listened to it while I was sewing. It truly is unbelievable how we, the people, let this stuff go on. I have known about the farm "welfare" program for a long time ...easyfor the farmer to just collect and not have to work their land just to keep prices inflated.
