Have been wondering how your foal is and what the vet said?

Robin from Sewell, NJ 08080

Hi Robin

Thanks for asking our little guy had to be put down 10 hours after he was born

he was worse than i explained in my rushed post he had Bilateral Luxation of the Patellas in both hind legs his stiffles were pointed towards his opposite rear leg and he could only squat with his back legs and was on his tippy toes but after a couple hours his feet flattened and his back legs stayed flared out and he still could only hobble. the vet said surgery would be at least $6,000 and not a good percentage of any real soundness or success.

so we had to for the first time make that decision to help him over the rainbow bridge as they say he was so cute and helpless had to help him nurse because he couldn't stop swaying to latch on for any length of time

and just walking and standing to nurse exhausted him so he fell sound to sleep again

our mare is doing good considering she has not pined too much, at least not outwardly.

Just to add the mare and the stallion had had many beautiful healthy foals in the past just one of those mini things I guess

Its so sad around here right now

we also had a mare abort a month before she was due last month

we do have 3 more foals due this year and I'm only hoping for healthy

Here is a picture, so you can see his legs here he is still on his back tippy toes

We are thankful we have so far 1 healthy colt so far this year who is an appaloosa and starting to get white hairs in the flank and butt area so thats exciting and 3 more coming but not till July

Oh that's so sad..... I'm so sorry! He was definitely a sweet, precious little one. Good luck on the rest of your foals...I hope they arrive healthy.

So sorry for you loss. We too had to make that "decision" this year and it sure is not easy to make. Seemed to put me in a cloud for a few weeks where I just wanted to know why......

We wish you much better luck with your remaining foals due!

I am so sorry.

What a precious little guy. It is so difficult to have to make that decision, I always feel so sorry for the mares - it is so sad when they have to lose their baby.

Hugs to you and please give that pretty little mare lots of love.

Good luck with the rest of your foaling season!

That's so sad, I'm so very sorry.

Sending good wishes for the rest of your foaling season, sounds like you really deserve a break.

Oh Lori, I am so sorry. Its a terrible loss waiting so long and having this happen. I hope your mare is getting over her grief.

I wish you all the best, healthy lovely foals for the remaining of the foaling season.
