Feeding Black oil sunflower seeds

I read in the forum this past week about the feeding your mini black sunflower seeds [bOSS]. I went to my feed store to buy some for my mini and they thought I was crazy, said they never heard of feeding it to horses, that I better check to see if this is the right stuff. I did by a bag, but it says for wild birds, did I get the right stuff? If I did how much do I feed at a time, and at both feedings? [AM & PM]. Do I gradually add a little each day until I get to the correct amount? Thanks for your feedback!!!!!!!!!!

You have the right stuff, Yankee Mom...I have larger minis (34,35 and 38 inches), and feed each of them two handsful at every meal.

You are absolutely right to introduce it with just a small amount and gradually increase the amount.

A few weeks ago my mare was out helping me fill the bird feeders, she snuffled the 'BOSS' , gave her some and man did she ever have a fit wanting more! Kinda the horse version of crack LOL That was her first taste, they all get just a tad at night.

Yes - you have the right stuff. I give 1/4 cup to all my horses, babies, mares, stallions, pregnant mares, show horses. They get it twice a day and they love it.

Funny thing is...when I first got it I thought I had the wrong stuff too because it had the shell on it. I kept thinking...there's no way that I'm going to sit and open all those for the horses... :new_shocked: Too funny...

I have fed them to my show rabbits successfully and their coats shine and the judges always complement that! They say that I do an excellent job on conditioning! I know that rabbits are not the same as Minis but this is just my short story!
