fencing in your minis

I dont have any problems with dogs, and at night the mini is brought into the barn. So our fencing is just large round wooden stakes every 10 meters with galvenized steel piping. I also use this area for our big horse if needed, so its high enough that Dainty ( the mini) wont get out. Its nice too because they cant do too much damage!

I use Split rail with the no-climb horse fence wire inside. I feel comfortable with this to keep dogs out. Using the heavy split rail on the outside makes the fence really strong and sturdy.

I also stall my minis at night for extra security. We havent had any stray dogs around but I'm extra protective after all the horror stories I've heard on minis being attacted by dogs.

Happy New Year !!!!! :aktion033: :aktion033:

Here is another that shows the wire fence on the inside of the split rail on the left side of the picture.

It sticks up about 8" higher then the top rail on the split rail.

I use field fence , and I don't have the hot wire with it, but I recommend it, as these guys love to RUB and Lean ......

I also have some board fences(stained) about 1 foot off the ground and another foot to second board. This is also around my stallion's pasture and it keeps him in even with a mare in heat nearby. We used 4x4 posts and 2x6 boards.

Depends on your location ,too, on what is best. Good luck

I am currently using chain link, as I added a corral and small barn into my back yard, which was already fenced with 5' chain link. It has worked fine with my gelding, but I am getting a filly weanling soon, and I am a little concerned, as she is exceptionally small. Any ideas?

I've always been told not to use chain link fencing for the simple reason that is if your horse goes to kick towards the fence, the fence will give some and the hoof can go through it, then the fence tightens back up again, and the hoof can't get pulled back out, leaving the horse caught or something worse. Personally I would never, never use that type of fencing just for that reason alone. It is good for keeping most dogs and such out, but it so dangerous for horses. This just my opnion.
