Well it's that time in life where we need to refence all of the paddocks! My question is what are your favorite types of fencing? I'm thinking we will likely go with wood rails again but would still like to hear opinions. Keep in mind that whatever it is we will need to attach wire fencing around the outside of the fence to keep the neighbours dogs out of the paddocks. The dogs just run into the paddocks willy nilly and so we put the wire fencing up and there hasn't been a problem since...now they just come to the fenceline to "visit".

Also can you hire people (experienced people) to come out and do it? Are there companies that do this or??? We've always just done our fencing ourselves but I don't feel like doing it this time! haha.

Thanks a bunch in advance.

We like the white plastic type fencing as you never have to paint or replace as a rule. The drawback to having it all over our lots is the COST. It is very expensive so as fencing needs to be replace, we go with it.

Great stuff and high enough for minis.

For our new pasture, we are using hog panels all the way around, that way we keep most critters out. If we have a problem with jumping we will add a top hot wire. There are companies that do fencing check with the feed store in your area or sometimes they are listed in the yellow pages. I personally love the look of board fence, but if I am going to still have to put wire up I say the heck with it.

I would adore wooden fencing, all white and lovely BUT I will stand by electric. Today I let the girls out about noon, quite cold here 24, and I looked out my front windows to see Thera on full attack mode. I ran to the window and there was a dog I had never seen before....pure white, long tail and a collar...I see this from a long ways. I yell to my son to get the gun.....he does....I ask him calmly to shoot above the dog....above because the dog was on the "outside" of the fence, running back and forth. Had the dog not left immediately I shudder to know what would have become of such a beautiful animal BUT my horses are my children. SO.....lovely wooden fencing maybe with some hot wire eh?

I am really happy with our fencing. We started out in 1998 with oak posts and heavy guage field fencing BUT are switching it all over (almost done!) to cattle panels on those oak posts. I love how sturdy this fencing is and that it will keep out dogs. I also like the way it looks. The panels are 16' long and 52" high. They are really the same stuff as hog panels, but taller. The average mini CANNOT jump over these. In the pictures, the silver bay (red) is 34" on the button and the palomino was about 36" at that time so you can see the height of these panels. The oak posts for our fencing are spaced every 8 feet. You can get an idea of how it is from these shots. I really LOVE this kind of fencing for minis and you can put it on metal posts if you prefer

I have cattle panels too and like them. I will be adding on to my paddocks and have been looking into the different kinds of fencing. I don't think I can add on with the cattle panels because where i'm putting the fence is kind of hilly. I did buy some wire that they call sheep fence, it's not as tall as the cattle panels but I think it will work good.

I am a big fan of wooden fences. I like to use 8' cedar post with 6" to 8" bottoms. I then use 1x5 rough lumber to span between the post.
