Well, I found a different pony that the owner was willing to trade for my double registered mini on - this was one of 5 Moderns I have seen that Ben and I liked. The other ponies' owners do not want a trade, so maybe there is still hope if my mare sells or I win the lottery....

The bad part was at my end....Could not get good photos of my mare as I do not own a good digital camera - I have a little $20 digital that you can download pics right to the computer. Did not have good help from my sons and my mare was most uncooperative about standing for pix - she was leaning, I would set up her legs and she would move them - not behaving at all like the show mini she has been in the past (I am working with her on her setting up).

Did not help that while my mare was leased the farrier did a bad job on her feet and my farrier won't be out for another few weeks.

In the meantime, someone else comes along and can buy the pony outright...so I am back to square one - hoping for a buyer for my mini mare comes along OR we find a trade for my mare for a Modern. I have been offered many lovely Classic ponies, some in beautiful colors and with beautiful conformation... even was offered two different registered Quarter Horse fillies...wish I had that offer when I was trying to find a new horse after Libby died....

I suppose finding a pony is like catching a train, but I feel like I am out in the middle of nowhere and have no idea where I am going and I lost my map and my tickets as well.

Hi Denise

Have you and your son ever seen or handled a modern pony in person?? Is there a reason why it has to be a modern pony and not a classic?? This is just my opinion but if you have never owned and handled a shetland pony I would go with a classic or a modern pleasure pony. Nothing wrong with a great classic filly! Good luck in your search

Hi Kay:

Yes, we have - in person at our Area One shows - which is why my son was interested in them to begin with. He has done very well with one of my very hot minis - had a judge fooled into thinking she was a "quiet" horse - he has a quiet way of settling horses and getting them to work with him.

I also have years of experience with TBs (broke a young racehorse to saddle - Majestic Prince bloodlines and worked with a Seattle Slew granddaughter who was not broke to anything among some of the TBs I worked with), QHs, Arabs, my Belgian, my minis, and my PMU filly. I do all my own training here from young horses and my son and I handle/work with all the horses. Currently I have my four minis and my PMU filly.

There are many lovely Classics that we have seen in action and in pictures and some had been offered as a trade but we do not want to go that route as we like the looks, presence, "fire" and action of the Modern Shetland.

Many thanks for your opinion though, I do respect it!

Thanks for the luck - we seem to need it!
