Interesting thread. :~)
1) My mom always took a small piece of chewing tobacco, chewed it just enough to wet it, and place it under a bandaid where a difficult splinter or small infection would be. I always, without fail, would draw all of it out.
2) Tooth past smeared over a burn draws out heat from a burn if done quickly
3) Kill a snake and burn it and you'll not find another snake around your yard for the rest of the season.
4) Blow cigar smoke into an aching ear canal to relieve the pain.
5) Shoemake berry cough syrup. Tastes pretty good and does help. Boil 4 clusters of clean/washed shoemake berries in a med. large size pan, strain the liquid into a bowl, add sugar, pour into mason jars to create a seal for keeping (otherwise you'll have shoemake berry wine!) (Some people add a tinch of whisky.)
6) WD40 for achy joints. My dad even swore by this for his horses.
7) Soapy water in a spray bottle will kill small insects, spray on a wasp nest and don't worry about running, you'll see them drop dead in the very instant, and kills the larvae as well! Also pour into a ground bees nest for the same effect.
Ohhh, I know there are more, but can't think of them until the need arises. The ones mentioned have all been repititiously used from as long as I can remember and all but #2 and #6 have been handed down from generations in my family. #6 My grandpa started when he had authoritis pretty bad, and he was spraying free some rusted something. He noticed that his achy joints in his knuckle that the spray got on quit aching. So he tried it as a test and it worked. From that time, my family swore by it, including my dad with the horses... I've never really needed it, so I've yet to try it.
(I may add some more if I think of them.)
