Grey filly

Hello,

My daugther brought this filly about 2 1/2 yrs old from making all A's, plus her birthday money. The mare is 37 inches, so she is AMHR.She loves this filly, she wants to show and breed her. What do you all think good and bad about her?

We hope someday we will have the right mares and studs to show in the big light.When we got our first mares and studs we didn't know anything. we are learning everyday.

I'm pretty new to minis too, but not to horses. So when I look for mares I try to find ones that look as horsey a possible. If I look at the mare alone with nothing to compare size too, I would think the horse was over 12 hands high... so all my mares are some what taller then some people like.

So do not go by what I say alone. it's JMHO..

I like this filly allot.

She is the size I like, with a nice top line and decent legs ect.

I love her color and a very pretty head. She looks like a very nice mare. I would love to have her in my herd she would fit right in.. she's a keeper... :bgrin

Thank you for your nice comment on the grey filly. My daughter after two years has paid for her now. My daughter has made all A's for 2 yrs,so she would get money for it.My daughter loves this filly.

I think she should start conditioning the horse, get the belly up, put on a throat latch & sweat the neck. Wrap the tail to keep additional urine stains away & put some MTG at the top to help it grow............... Get some help on showing & come show season see what the judges think.......................... Tell her to have fun & learn all she can. If she comes out of the showring without a ribbon & still loves her horse then THAT is what counts.............. My daughter used to save up for items she wanted also but in her case it was expensive jewelry.

I like your daughters taste. She is a very pretty mare and with the right conditioning she could be a good show mare. If she decides not to show her, I know she's have beautiful babies.

Personally, I LOVE her! I love her face, she looks so sweet! Her neck seems a bit short and her tailset low, so make sure you pick a stallion with a long neck and higher tailset when the time comes.

She'd be a keeper in my herd!

I notice in this photo as well as the others you have posted in the recent past that your horses aren't standing properly when you take the pictures.

You can make a National Champion look bad if you take a photo with the legs under the belly and don't get down to the horses level. You need to stand the horse with its legs square. Front legs sraight down from the point of shoulder and rear legs with hocks to pasterns straight up and down. Then the head should be up but not pushed back making the neck bulge. The neck and head should also not be pulled out like an alligator. Then you need to sit down on a low bucket or chair to snap the photo.

To do this you need to teach whoa first. This is something every horse really needs to know so it is not wasted time teaching it. Then teach the horse to stand square the same way you teach a big horse. You step it forward and back until the hind feet are were you want them, then reward the horse with a pat and good so they figure out that when you ask their feet should go that way.

You will always need two people to take the photos this way but your horses will look a world better. Try taking some this way and compare the two photos of the same horse.

HERE ARE SOME PICTURES OF OUR BIG APHA PAINTS. DID I TAKE BETTER PICTURES OF THEM.We are selling all of our big horses, but two to ride, so we can raise and show minis.We take all of pictures of our horses playing and etc as well.
