She's the one my vet told me to give banamine and if I didn't, she'd lay straight down on her legs, and kept flopping her head all over and push her face against the wall. Yesterday he came out to check her, said she was ok, no uterine contorsion, yes, the foal was alive, mucus plug gone, starting to dilate. I didn't give her any banamine last night, trying to get by without it.
About 4 A.M. I was watching her, she's walking around the stall, constantly nibbling straw and hay and holy cow, here theres a birthing sack hanging out of her about 6 inches. I ran down and told the crazy horse to lay down and push but she acted like she didn't know what was happening. And she's not a maiden. Finally she lays down and barely pushes, just doing some big sighs but the baby was coming slowly. But the baby came out, she gets back up and starts nibbling all over the stall again, like she hasn't had food for a wk. She did look back at her foal like, "What are you!"
She's going to be a good mom, just took awhile for her instincts to kick in. So Cheyenne did it again, a pretty bay pinto filly with one blue eye. Here's a picture of her.
I am so thankful this mares birth is over and done with, she has caused me at least another hundred grey hairs, I'm sure, she is one strange cookie but loved just the same, she's one of our driving mares!
