Hi Group.

I'm trying to get ready before my carts arrive, and we get ready to drive our minis. I've ordered the harnesses and bits, but am I supposed to have a chain that runs under the chin? I can't remember.

Thank you!

There are no chains under the chin for harnesses. There are nosebands and cavessons. If you have not put a harness on before or have not driven I would get help from a knowledgable person as the harness fit can be tricky if you've not done it before, maybe there is someone in your area who can help. This is just my opinion and I'm just trying to help, but I drive and don't know of any harness that would have a chain underneath the chin. That is in show halters and can be put underneath of barn halters if you have a eadrope with a chain. I hope I helped.

Well, sort of Amanda.

You are right that show halter-style chains are not part of a harness, but curb bits such as the Liverpool, Butterfly, and others do use a curb chain under the chin. The chain is part of the leverage system that a curb bit utilizes. However snaffle bits do not use leverage and thus do not use a curb chain. Most minis are driven in snaffles and this is all the breed associations allow, so no Geri, there is no chin chain for you.

And PLEASE do get someone to help you put it on- otherwise it could be a DISASTER!!!!

Thank you everyone. I just wanted to be fulled ready and prepared with everything I need to have here for driving. And not to worry, I have someone who is coming over to help us get the harnesses put together and sized for the two driving minis. I wouldn't make such a foolish mistake.

: They were just not available to ask this question because they are out of town, and I needed to think ahead to have the equipment here that I need.
