You know what just really makes me mad...? People who are mean to animals!!!!!Well when I was at work we were on our way to the carwash and out of the corner of my eye I see this horse. From his neck to the front of his shoulderblade he is cut wide open!!!!!!I would say it was about a good 20 inches long and 4 or more inches deep!!!! The leg had started to swell and he was staggering. I have never seen a cut this bad!!!! well i found the number of the owner and called him. well he was a real jerk. he said "He has already been attended to that he had ran into something." Well that horse needed to be sewn up!! So I called an had the the sheriffs come out and they were out there for bout 45 min. they had the owner come out. I dont know what happend I will prob find out more tomorrow.

Dont people just make you so mad!!! I do all I can to help animals and there are just those heartless people who just dont care! I figured that since animals have saved my life I should devote my life to saving any and all creatures!!!!!!

This is one of the reasons I closed my doors to the public as a riding and trekking centre.

I chose all our horses for personality and temperament. Every one a dear kind horse, all of them willing to please and keep their rider on board. I care deeply for the welfare of every single one, to me they are not just commodities.

Some of the tourists we got through the doors thought they were riding a bicycle, an inanimate oject to be hauled around, when we asked them to stop hauling the horses about we got funny looks.

A very few were interested in horsemanship, but the vast majority just wanted a quick adrenaline rush at the expense of our horses.

I know this isn't cruelty as such, but it shows up the general attitude of folk to animals. It is a thin end of a wedge, when do they start to have a bit of empathy? If they cannot put themselves in the place of the horse while they kick him and pull on his mouth, when do they, when he's on his knees gasping for breath?

I don't know, some folk are very strange.

Well done you for caring enough to go and get the Sheriff- will you follow through now and ring again and ask what was done??

Even if he was not able to get a good result, a word of thanks for you for his having responded will go a long, long way, believe me (When was the last time you said "thankyou" to the police??)

He will remember your kindness and it will mean he will respond again. Even if he fails this time, he may win next time.

Again, though, well done, a lot of people would not have gone this far.

Well done! :aktion033: I also would call and say thanks and inquire as to the horse's condition now.

:aktion033: :aktion033: :aktion033:

I would have done the same thing!! Good for you!!

Let us know what you find out. I'd like to see if the sheriff made him do anything for that poor animal.

I am glad that you took an interest...you just never know. But, my dad had a Standardbred that was blind in one eye..he was born that way. And, he was home from the track on a "vacation" and we were out of state at a show and had a reliable person to care for the horses. We came home to find that Jack had a similar type injury. We could read the pasture as to what had happened. They had all been running, and it was muddy. He tried to stop and slid in the mud..he didn't see the t-post as it was on his blind side..he bent the first one double...literally..bent the second 90 degrees..and also bent the third.. He had a HUGE chunk of flesh that just hung..probably 20 lbs. worth from his chest to his forearm and down toward his knee.

The person caring for the horses had a vet come...not our usual vet..and he stitched it.

We immediately had our regular vet out and he said that it wouldn't hold and wondered why the other vet had stitched it...He gave us meds..and sure enough, the stitches didn't hold and were soon out.

Our vet said that he would be racing again in the Spring...it was fall..and we didn't believe him. But, with the ointment he left us, Jack healed quickly and he ended up with only a 1/2" scar on his chest that you had to look for to find. And, he raced..as a 14 yr. old...better than he ever had in his life!! It was miraculous!

Anyway, things aren't always what they seem.. but, at least we knew to keep him in a stall and hand exercise him.. I wonder why that guy had his injured horse outside?? Poor thing..I hope he will be ok.

Randy,

You definitely did the right thing...... Too many people "don't want to get involved" which just adds to the problem.

We had a rescue arabian that had a deep cut on his neck - the vet said that if it iwas stitched it would not heal - has to heal from the inside out - we eventually did wet to dry dressings and it healed very well - the vet had us use an antibiotic solution at first and then switched to diluted Novalsan in a few days - use the tape style gauze and soak some of it in the solution sqeeze it so it is not dripping but it still wet - that gets put into the deepest area of the cut and then cover it with dry gauze to fill the wound, cover that with a larger guaze - sometimes called a lap pad - the biggest problem was getting it to stay - we had to shave some areas around the wound and used elastoplast tape - (keep it in the refridgerator to keep it from becoming a sticky mess) it is very sticky and a bit expensive - but cheaper than surgery or having the vet out daily to do this - We used to use benzoin solution to help bandages stick but I haven't found that here - if you find benzoin - paint it on the places you want the elstoplast to stic let it dry to a tacky stickiness then put the elastoplast down. If not just use the elastoplast to hold the lap pads in place and we found that a mane tamer helped keep it in place. maybe a slinky would help you. We changed this daily - you'll see the lighter pink of granulation tissue begin at the edges and deep inside as ti begins to heal. Good Luck with it! Thank-you for getting involved.

Not to deny at all that there is some serius animal abuse going on in the world.....

SOMETIMES, it is the best to leave wounds open, to heal from the inside out....especially if the wound may have already been open for a while. We had a lady a while back who had a mare with a chest abcess that stayed open and heal miraculously well. Sometimes animals are equipped to heal differently than humans.

I am not there, and I cannot say that it was abuse or not. But it is wise to make sure first.....wrongly accusing people can cause alot of hurt.

Edited to say IMO...if it were my horse I would probably keep it enclosed and walk it for excercise.

Sometimes for various reasons, wounds cannot be stitched and must be left to drain. Stitching would cause more harm.

However, I am glad you followed through. If I had a horse this seriously injured, it would not just be hanging around outside in a pen and staggering around!! Follow through again. Unfortunately we have found that sometimes law enforcement does not follow through as needed either.

Is there a local ASPCA or Humane Society that can also get involved?

Well you see the thing about this guy is that he has had numerous calls on him for neglect. Lets just say he is not a GOOD person around here! You just dont mess with him! for instance he was reported for skinny starved horses.

for beating this dog with a wet sweater he tied knots all in just to make the dog mean.

also another one was for repeatedly throwing this dog up againts a wall.

This was al reported by his neighbors. He had the HURT horse in with a bunch of other horses and cows.

And no there is not an aspca. It is so hard to get people in trouble around here even if you have proof! They are not very animal right strict around here!

I cant find anything out yet but I should later. The lady out at PAWS is trying to also find stuff out.

************************************************************************************

Ijust found this out today. well I drove by to see if that horse was still there and he was! A trailer was suppose to pick him up and take him to the vet! Well so the police were called again and I will have to see if the poor thing had to go another night! I am going to go by there tomorrow and see if it was taken care of. Cause no vet has treated the horse!
