I am ordering Shake's clothes for Nationals. Do you typically need a midweight blanket in Tulsa, or do your horses do okay in the slinkies and sheets? Thanks!

This is Oklahoma you are talkin about! Could be 110 degrees or it could be 65!!! Bring both!

Yes you will need both. It never fails that you will have a cold day and you have to put blankets on, and considering how funny our weather is this year who knows.

Like Julie said, you want to be prepared for HOT weather and pretty cool weather. The barns are 'open', that is, they have no sides so if it turns cool and windy you will want to keep your boy from getting chilled...and a fleece cooler for if you have to bathe on a cool day (I can't stand to see shivering horses). And bring fans for if it's hot.

You're going to have so much FUN!

I ALWAYS take Blankets ,sheets and slinkies. Almost every year there is One night when you need the Blankets. Also make sure you take fans. The weather is just so unpredictable,It is much better to have everything than to have to go shopping for a blanket and you might not be able to get the size or color you want.

MOMINIS, if you don't get the tack and stuff you need, there will be lots (if it is like most years anyway) of venders there with just about anything you could possibly need. And if you are there till the last couple of days, things seem to go on SALE, because they just don't want to haul it all back with them. Have fun at nationals.

Thanks, guys. Guess I'll start shopping for my fleece cooler. Any suggestions?

Also, on the slinkies, which is the best to get the cotton blend or the nylon blend? I saw a cotton blend one on the Last Chance Auctions and I try and support them when I can. However, I want the best quality so it will stay with me for a long time and I do want a full body, not just the hood. Any thoughts on this?

I like the full-body lycra ones the best, but have several just head/neck ones too. I would get the cotton blend ones to put OVER the lycra ones for when they are just clipped and washed. You know how itchy they get, and will likely roll and scratch a lot? Well, I think the cotton blend will be tougher, if not as stretchy...let it take the brunt of the rolling and scratching, and the more "delicate" lycra one will stay nice and pretty for the show.

Yep, get everything. I remember many a Tulsa day taking off blankets and turning on fans.... only to have a storm roll through and have to go around turning off fans and putting on blankets...

I just get the lycra slinkies. Get good quality thick ones, they will hold up just fine.

Take it ALL!!!!!!!!! The first year I went I only took sheets and slinkies. Yes, I had to buy heavy blankets for all the horses that we took.
