Okay, so i have a few questions

- If i was to get a mini and show it, could i show in a simple Leather covered Cable halter? it would only be a yearling, Every kind of shows from AMHA-open

- Do minis need there teath floated? if so how often?

- How old do you have to be to show a Stallion at a AMHA show?

For local shows especially the halter should be fine and as long as it compliments your horses head it is fine for A too but people just tend to want a slightly fancier halter but some also prefer the more simple ones.

Minis do need their teeth floated but how often depends on your horse. You can get a general idea of when they need their teeth done by checking for sharp edges on their back teeth. Either look if they will let you or stick your finger in along the cheek but make sure not to get in between the teeth and get bitten!

As for age here is the only quote from the Amha rulebook about stallions that I could find..."No youth 12 years of age and under may show stallions with the exception of weanling and yearling colts." So you should be fine unless the rule has changed.

If I am wrong or if someone else has better advise I hope they will post it. This is just my take on things!

yes you can show in a leather cable halter. Most folks showing in registry (AMHA/AMHR) shows use beaded or wide nose band cable halters. You can find those pretty inexpensive on LC Auction occasionally, e-bay, or the some of the tack places, such as Double Diamond, Star Lakes, or Ozark. I've found them for as little at $30.

You must be 12 in order to show a stallion 2YO or older. If your colt is a yearling, you can show it no matter what age you are.

If you're looking into doing major showing, you might want to geld. I don't think stallions are allowed in youth classes (not for sure, have to check). So you wouldn't be able to show against kids your own age due to your horse still being intact. Just something to think about for the future.

Ian, i think region 1. im NOT positive though.
Jenny, I think your wright its region 1, isnt it like New England and NY, maybe PA, Im not sure tho

I think that is fine, especially as you are just starting out.

Yes, and just like big horses, how often can really vary. If a horse has an off bite, they may need it more often. As a general rule, my horses are checked annually and floated if that needs to be done.

Rule book states: "No youth 12 years of age and under may show stallions with the exception of weanling and yearling colts."

Good luck and have fun!!!
