I sold a stallion back in October, might I say, listen to your gut.

I found out yesterday they are being thrown out of their house I was told they owned, but rent. I guess landlords don't tolerate you not paying rent for 4 months.

I can't even talk about his condition as I may destroy my keyboard.

I need to get him in the next few days. I was adding a new boys section to the barn, but not for this one and it is not done.

So, can you help with a safe, quick fix??

What I do have is a 8x16 carport. It only has a roof, so I'm thinking it is the best bet. Being warmer the sides could wait, right? It is only 25 feet from the barn. He can not be with the other horses for a good while.

So for the sides, plus to keep him in,,,,cattle panel? Corral panels? Go ahead and put up maybe a half wall, not all the way up?

The carport has 8 - 6x6 posts and the floor is cement.

Any ideas would be so so appreciated.

He will be staying, and gelded soon. Something they were suppose to do, but well..

Thanks!!!!!

Does he have to be able to be locked in it as a stall? In a hurry you might be able to attach tarps around three sides of the carport as a windbreak until your able to do something more permanent.

I'd use plywood and 2x4 frames screwed together rather than cattle panel. If he hasn't been treated right, he might not have any manners or be desperate to get to another horse.

Don't ya just love people!!

I'd be concerned that the tarps flapping might freak him out.

Do you have a horse trailer that could be a temp stall? Then I would go with the plywood for the sides of the carport!

Gosh, good luck!!

Carolyn,

A friend of mine took landscape timbers and made 3 sided "log cabins".

They're adorable, warm in winter, cool in summer and the minis love them.

The roof is made of the clear plastic material with "waves" in it that people use to make sun shade for patios or decks.

I can't tell you how much the cost was but they could easily build one in a day.

If you're interested PM me and I'll have my friend contact you.

If you need something really quickly... you can use a calf hut till you get things done. That way there is no building and you can move it easily. I see folk around here using them and they look perfect for size.

Just an ideal.

Others have addressed the shelter issue, I just wanted to say, I'm SO SORRY you are having to go through this trouble! Why can't people be honest and caring? I hope your boy is okay, and I'd like to hear about his updates. Poor guy

Plywood walls etc would be the cheaper route but I also found my horses LOVE the rubber maid shed that's tech for a riding lawn mower storage.

I am single and it comes in maybe 8 pieces and think it took about 30 mins for me to assemb once getting it home. pieces are fairly lightweight and easy for me to move on my own.

The only modifications I made was to screw down retractable half of the roof (with our TX wind storms it would blow off some of the time) and then I added foam sealer around the edges to help keep out the little bit of draft.

I found mine on Craigslist but stores do sell them.

Its a little

as they fight over this little shed vs going in the larger 12x10 run in shed I built last summer.

You can make a quick one with T-posts - a cattle panel and a tarp and it will keep him out of the weather like rain and such I can email you how to do it if you want?

Thank you all so much for your suggestions.

Going to partially enclose it and will still work well as a carport later, help to keep the wind off the truck.

Rest will be 2 corral panels that will be easily removed and cattle panels to make him an area to be out. I think they are rather easy to get up.

Little bit of money, little bit of time, and can get him home.

Thanks again so much. Will let you know how he's doing.

I needed a quick stall and shelter under a carport last year. I bought 8' horse panels and plywood. I drilled holes in the plywood and used heavy duty zip ties to attach the plywood to the insides of the panels. It was a perfect fit. I used 3 for the stall and a gate. I also covered it tight with a tarp to keep out the wind. The water bucket did not freeze in minus 30 degree weather. It was quite warm. I used a couple more panels attached to the front of the stall to let the horse out into leaving the gate open so it could go into the stall. I have left the plywood on these panels and can quickly make a stall if needed.
