If you remember I posted back in December when I got my Welsh Pony mare, Llanfillo Estina*. This spring she had a few health issues that set back my training plans, but she is healthy again and I had no more excuses! I haven't ridden in years, probably since 2000/2001, but I finally got the guts to get on her for the first time last week! I have some confidence issues/fears from when I was young rode horses/ponies that were too much for me and got dumped, etc. Mostly one pony named Ginger Snap that was a brat and waay to much for a beginner. That is partially why I was so drawn to the Miniatures, all that horse to experience, but less fear.
Estina had not been ridden at all before, except a kid on her back now and then. I'm choosing to ride her bareback, which was my favorite way to ride before, and with a Dr. Cook's Bitless Bridle (I really love them and highly recommend them). I rode her several times for short periods over the last week, and she enjoys it too. One morning she willing shoved her head into the bridle. I'm very excited! It's a little nerve-wracking, but it feels good to be riding again, and it puts a big grin on my face. When I feel more confident, I'll get someone to take some pics for me to post, but right now I'm concentrating on both of us being comfortable and safe! I can't say enough good things about the Welsh, she really is taking care of me too. She walked very slow when she knew I didn't feel confident and kept stopping, like she knew I wasn't sure I wanted her to go.
Thanks for letting me share.
