Just wondering if anyone has ever gotten together with another person, or a few others, and imported a group of horses at a time to split import costs? Is that even possible, or, is there a nominal import fee PER horse?

Are you wanting to Import from another country TO the United States???

It generally is a per horse import fee, lots of restrictions , quarentine costs etc. I have exported to South Africa several years ago and it cost the person 1800 in import fees.

I guess i'm talking from Europe to the US...I have a friend there who bought a filly from me, and also bought one of my favorite stallions, she bred the two and I have joked numerous times about how I want that baby! But you know I do really want that foal...just...I heard importing was murder financially...around $4000 just to import from there to here in the US?

Yeah that really doesn't make cost effective sense. I mean do you need that baby that bad???

I know of a gal that imported a foal to Australia, besides the cost of the foal, and time it took with Quarantine, it cost her over 7 grand, It was worth it to her since the filly is winning all over the place down there.

If you have that kind of money and really want it, go for it. Me I will stick with the US foals.

No lol...I don't have that kind of money =) But yes for my own reasons, I want the foal whether filly or colt, that bad! I was hoping maybe importing costs could be split but it sounds like it is PER horse no matter what?

My Friesian filly was imported from Holland for me. But I went through a lady who has a partner in Holland and imports them all the time. I do know it's slightly cheaper if they share a box... my girl and her 1/2 sister, who came over as weanlings, shared a box together so it was slightly cheaper. I don't know the price though, as import and quarentine were part of her purchase price. Quarentine is cheaper for the young ones (I dont' know the cut off age) as they only have to be there a few days. Geldings is the same, I believe. But mares are more money (longer quarentine) and stallions MUCH more money (and length of quarentine). Unless the mini is phenomenal and WINNING, I don't think it would be worth the cost? With Friesians, you can get a really nice one for the same or CHEAPER than buying one in the states as you can for buying AND importing together, but there are so many nice minis that I wouldn't think it would be cost effective that way? (And Friesian prices in the states are so high compared to Holland).
