Where is the best place to buy these types of heaters? I have a mare that looks like she might be having her foal during this gross winter weather. I have looked on Ebay and they didn't have any at this time.

Are there other types of heaters you use besides the heat lamps, they scare me a little.

Thanks for the help!

I have used the Kal Glo heaters for years and LOVE them. They are made to be used in barns and are very efficient.

I am not sure if the reason we bought them was for us or the horses, but we both love them in winter and spring births.

The link that has been mentioned is the company that makes them and we too bought them directly from them.

We have four foot high stall walls in the foaling barn and have one that is half on one side and half on the other stall, so that one heater heats two stalls.

That way if the horse wants to it can move away from the heat source. Very helpful when a foal is born to get them quickly dried off and warm in addition to the usual towels.

Well worth having them.

Can anyone tell me approximately what these heaters cost? I did not see prices listed on the website.

Ditto on the Kalglo--love 'em! I am thinking we pd about $200 or so.

This will be my first year using the Kalglo. I believe last year when I was looking they ran around 300.00. I was able to purchase mine at the Lynncliff Auction for a great price. I have it hooked up and and tried it out and can't believe how much of an area it warms. I am ready for those early babies.

We bought the HS-RS model. 120v, 1500 watts. It has an adjustable thermostat, and cycles on and off. Seems like I paid somewhere between $260-300.

Mine's still in the box! Just got it a few weeks ago.....can't wait to see how it works! I believe it was right around $300. It's the same model as Sunrise has, HS-RS model. 120v, 1500 watts.

Piece of advice-----be sure and put your heaters on a power surge protector. We learned the hard way, had one get zapped by lightening last year and I just got my new one in a few weeks ago. I am sending my other off for repairs so I can have a back up if needed.

I have one, it was in the barn when I bought the place in Jersey, but the bulb is cracked due to shabby handling on my last move to MI, I don't see where you can jus tbuy the bulb or how much it cost there.

If any of you know if they sell replacement bulbs let me know please.

Thanks

Jan

Kal Glo' s do not have a bulb.

Look at the website previously listed and see if you have the same unit Jan.

Great post and great timing as I think my rescue mare is nearing her due date!! Just had a super nice lady drop a Kalglo off to me to borrow! I want to know how high to hang it? It's directions say 4' above horse but that seems so far away from a foal laying down, will that really warm him enough? I am using an 8'X14' storage shed for foaling this girl who is still in quarantine (but still looking quite healthy). Vet will check her out on Wednesday and hopefully give me a better idea of when he thinks she might foal! So, how high do I hang the heater? Thanks!

Surge protectors are much easier to replace!

Mine is hung 5' off the floor, and to one side of the stall so both the foal and mare can decide when they want a little warmth. It is wonderous how fast the little newborns learn where the warm spot is!

WOW -- I can confirm they are a good product. Mine still works fantastically and when i purchased it, thought $87 + s/h was costly. Well, that rascal is over $250 now!!!!!!!!!!

Well who knows what this is really intended for, it is made by Merco Products, and according to the websites they make food warming stuff, they do have a overhead one that hangs , but putting the product number in , they must not make them anymore, So I may as well just buy a new one, but only have one foal due, so it may not even be worth it to get one, although I could use it for my older QH's that are now over 25 years, guess they could use one.

To bad to as this one has a thermostat on it, oh well, back to the drawing board.

Thanks for posting them links I still may get one for the old gals.

Have a nice day

Jan
