HI everyone.

I happened across this site a while back and got myself an account here because the forum looked like to much fun and I have a few questions about long ears!

First about myself, Im 19 and own 10 horses at this time. (2 ridding horses whom I give lessons on, 1 icelandic stallion, 5 miniatures and 2 ponies.) I am cutting back the herd some right now to start twards my goal of producing AMHA/AMHR/ASPC registered horses. I also plan to breed Icelandics (Stud is only a yearling so where a ways a way)

But any way im looking into getting a mini donk or two. A donkey is something Ive never owned but have a interest in learning more about these little long ears

: What do they eat? Is there care basicley the same as a horse? What is a donkeys temperment like? Something my school kids could go love on? And when cross breeding a mini donk and a mini horse would you get a male donk or a stud horse to breed? Thanks so much cant wait for your replies. Jennifer.

Hi and WELCOME! I have learned SO much here! I have a 20 month Old Jenny and a 4 month old Jack who will be weaned soon and home with us

Donkeys (most of them from what I read) have an awesome temperment) The are VERY smart and will not do something they think is dangerous. If you want some good information Caring For Your Miniature Donkey is a GREAT book ( http://www.qis.net/~minidonk/donkbook.htm ) Can't help you on the breeding questions but if you scroll through this section on the forum you will see lots os info on mules and hinnies.

On feeding my girl gets only 1/2c grain a day and 2-3 fleks because she shares with my one mini and both are quite healthy

She gets trimmed and wormed every 8 weeks and hates the wind LOL

Welcome!
