Dam is a silver bay roan, sire of course is my black pinto. Is this roaning taking effect already (he's only 3 days old) or do you think he will clip off silver dapple? I haven't had a true roan foal born here before, and the last silver bay foal I had clipped off silver dapple.

I don't think he is going to be roan but with these little wanders who knows! Have you looked at the base hair colour on his face? My roan foals don't start to roan out till they lose their foal coat.

He is very cute!

Thanks. The under color on his head still appears dark except that area around his muzzle and eyes. Guess I'll just wait and see until it's warm enough/he's old enough to clip!

I have quite a few roans on my farm, and I can tell you I have babies that roan out right away. I think he will be a silver bay roan just like his mama. :D

I think you should send him to me after he's weaned, and I will tell you what happens when he loses his baby fuzz..

Congratulations on your new foal !!! How cute !!! He looks like he may roan to me too !! I so need to post my two babies..I am so behind on everything this year...

Silver Bay Roan.

The Bay Silvers that you had clip out Silver Black are still Silver Bays- the base colour does not change when you clip them it just gets disguised!!
