I have to say, so far this has been one of the best and worst years I've had. It started off not so good. I bought a couple mares and was getting them from RHA (MD) and heading back to Maine and the axle broke off my trailer. Managed to get them home, but no trailer isn't a fun thing when you're planning on showing and have mares due to foal. Then I lost my first filly of the year out of my Top Cat daughter. Finally things started looking up a bit with a live, healthy filly on May 7th. This is her now.

Then I was planning on trying to get to the Maple E show in NH, but of course, no trailer makes it difficult. Plus I had a mare that was VERY close to foaling. Then I went to the pasture to pull in 2 mares to clip them for the show and WOWEE they're both BRED..one VERY VERY close. I guess I didn't take much notice because she's always been a little "big boned", but this was definitely a different kind of belly. So I pulled her in around Mothers Day, set her up in a stall and waited. Now I had TWO mares that had to foal so I could go to the show. I got my B colt and B mare ready just in case, but was only half planning on going. After all, 2 mares ready to pop and no horse trailer the weekend before the show wasn't looking too good for me. Well, the first mare, one that I'd bought from RHA bred to Cross Country Private Terms had a gorgeous FILLY on the 20th. Of course, this was supposed to be my COLT so I could cross him with the daughters from my Buckeroo stallion...good thing I'd already bought a colt from Belinda...so..she might have to be a keeper. :aktion033: Sorry it's not the best pic. I think she's just a plain old silver dapple. Dad carries silver and cream and mom carries silver.

Then my tiny maiden looked awfully uncomfortable so I stayed up and waited for her. Good thing because he was NOT coming out. Thought I'd lost him at first..sack was broken and his nose poked out a little and tongue was hanging out and was dark purple, not usually a good sign. She kept getting up and down and pushing him out just a little and then sucking him in. I just wanted to make sure I got him out to make sure the mare was ok. I greased up and went in and he was still kicking so I worked my butt off with the mare to get him out. I was getting really nervous because the placenta came out before him. Darned head kept getting stuck and she finally popped him out while laying on her back with her legs spread apart. Funny now to think of it looking back. I was worried because she had no interest in him at first..tolerated him, but when he whinnied she just ignored him. He was a little slow at first, but is doing so much better now. He's already spoiled and likes to be carried and held. This is the little mare I got from Erica a couple years ago and her FIRST beautiful baby boy born the 21st!

Of course, I sold the stallion that produced him and the "black" (greying) pinto and almost regret it now lol. These pics don't even begin to do them justice.

So the show was on the 26th and the 24th I signed the papers to get myself a new trailer. It's a Merhow 2 horse with dressing room. YAY. I'm liking the dressing room a lot already! My colt was a total brat in all his classes, but ended up first, Jr Champion and Reserve Grand Ch B stallion, and my mare did pretty well getting Sr Ch under 1 judge.

I have 2 more babies left to go and I'm just hoping they're uneventful, though 1 is a maiden so we'll see!

What an adorable group of foals, congratulations!!!!

So Jen does this mean you'll be doing some transport to pay for that brand new trailer? Babies are just wonderful. Am so glad the little guy is doing better now. Congratulations!!!!!!

Jen congrats on all your babies, Queens baby must be quite tiny as she's what maybe 28" herself? Her mother went through the Heritage sale, I can ask Sheryl if she got any pictures of her for you.

Congrats on all your new foals and the trailer. I know what u mean to not have wheels!!!! U never know how much u need them till u dont have one. Your poor little mare that foaled upside down. So glad it worked but I have never heard of one actually coming out that way with mom upside down. Guess she knew what to do
