Well it's true, had to drag out my barn boots clean them up and Yuck put them on. The rain falls as I write this. Today is not the first day of the rain either. Temp to be about 63 deg today and that is the high. Horses are wet. Dogs are wet and muddy when they go outside. It too wet and not liking it. Don't get me wrong I love the Pacific NW I even love

setting outside under cover listening to the rain and breathing in that great clean moist air. I just don't like the wet fur and the mud we will be facing once again this year.

Just wanted to share.

It's wet in our corner, near the coast, of the Pac NW, too. The rain accumulations reported on the morning news were pretty amazing.

Ponies came in nearly 3 hours early for dinner and dripped so much on the floors of their bedrooms

it looked like water had been spilled. Took sweat scrapers to them and at 8 am this morning

they were still damp, to go back out into the rain.

Chevy, our German Shepherd went in for his monthly grooming on Thursday, now that was a

good use of money.

His belly is as dirty now as it was when we took him in.

I spend all my time apologizing to the horses for the nasty weather. In my next life I'll have a

covered arena for them to play in on nasty days........

I am sending up prayers to the Rain Gods that we do not have a repeat of the 2006 and 2007 fall

and winter weather.

I'm supposed to be taking my little gelding to a Wranglers show this afternoon so I can school him in some driving classes .....but the idea of cleaning up my little mudball makes me cringe!

Still gonna do it though.

Tonight will be the first night they will be locked in their stalls for the night. They will not be happy I am sure as the mares don't seem to mind standing in the wind and rain worshipping Jimmy while he stands in his barn nice and dry looking out at them. By the way he has also taught his son Koda to stand there right beside him so he too will be dry. If the girls decide to head for their barn he will scream at them and call them back. "AND THEY DO IT"

The one and only that will finally just head in and ignore him is Ariel. She could care less what he has to say most of the time. She would prefer to kick him into oblivion.

So tonight they will be secure and dry.

Marie, I bet Jasmine and Ariel would love a tarp "horseport" right next to the fence!

We have a horseport and a horsey "yurt" -- a tarp that stretches across the corral corner, goes up and over the corner post, then is fastened down around the outside of the fence, giving them a high roof and two walls. Neither shelter looks terribly classy, but the horses love them. They also have a corner that is sheltered by several large fir trees that serves as their brief rain shower shelter.

They love the cooler weather and have been busy running, bucking and farting, but the "dry" lot is starting to get muddy and I don't look forward to the mess at the gate...the horses have it fine, but the humans have to make it through the muck to get to them.

Yep, incredible rain and the first windstorm of the year as I speak. Poor Kody is having a hard time settling into the winter "time off" routine and begs pitieously(sp?) every time I go out there. I started my winter driving lessons three months early just to keep him happy and was amply rewarded when he FLEW into the trailer yesterday and radiated satisfaction and gratitude like a little furry camp stove all night long. That poor guy loves his driving and now that his stifles aren't bugging him the idea of sitting around fat and lazy apparently holds no appeal at all.

I foresee a wet winter for yours truly!

I don't mind so much, as the plants and pastures are getting watered. We always have high winds here..so nothing that different for us.

Got the shedded cedar mulch delivered ,for around the pasture gates and such.. lasted 4 years last time we put some down. DH just has to find the time to use the tractor to get it where I need it.

I figure with rain,, comes rainbows! This is one that showed up the first day of rain.

Yup, Fall is here, but it's still pretty mild outside temperature-wise. I just bought my annual ton of stove pellets.

The mares are SO fat from the apple trees.

I thought they just checked periodically to see if any had fallen onto the ground, but I got a chuckle yesterday when I saw Lolly go up to the tree, grab a branch and start shaking the heck out of it until it released a few snacks for her and the others. :DOH!

She is working the tree like it is a vending machine!

Hate to tell her that no one will be stopping by to re-stock it until next year.

Wow Daryl that is quite smart on Lollys part and to share the take with the others. When you find her standing under the tree all barren this winter maybe you should go out, give her a big hug and some really yummy horsie cookies or berry treats to take their place.

And why haven't we seen a video of this?

I am one of those different people that enjoy the rain. I do NOT enjoy getting up to go to work in the dark though. I get really depressed when that happens.

Shortpig, I need to find my boots. My cheap sandels don't seem to help much in the mud puddles.

And I have to say for my perlino mare, mud masks are not a good look for her! Uhg,,, ever look at a horse and cringe? She is supposed to be in foal too, our comments can't be helping the baby. Every one that comes in make a rude comment about it's Mama's appearance! Like "wow, that is the homeliest horse I have ever seen.." Yes,, yes that was from me. But she scared me for a moment. Poor Pinky.

It does make it nice and cozy to clean the barn when it is raining and you have the radio going, the barn cat is helping. That is one of my favorite things.

Wow That's just plain rude, but funny. I can only imagine when she foals what that baby will say. "Great I have an ugly mom and all the other kids will be making fun of me."

Just the fact that you call her Pinky is enough of an insult on its own. That's right up there with me calling my two mares "Tubby and Chubby"! Even though it is true at this point. We are dieting.

Yes and sandals really don't help alot in puddles. Not to mention what your feet must look like when you are done with your chores.

I too enjoy the rain, I like to set out with the horses under cover listening to the rain and breathing in the great moist NW Air. It can be very relaxing.

I am actually going back to work today after being sick for two weeks. Two round of Antibiotics and way too much rest. When I was able to go feed my own horses they looked at me like I was a stranger or something. All except Jasmine who came up and put her head on my shoulder while I was sitting and enjoying the weather. She figured she could make me better if she just mauled me a little bit I guess. She's such the mother horse to everyone.

Bleah!

I detest the rain and mud...I am going on strike/hibernating until the weather clears up. *LOL*

Yesterday was miserable!

I hope Halloween is not nasty. Stinks to take the kids out into the rain in their costumes.

Liz, I don't think I remember more than one or two dry Halloweens in my entire life.
default_new_shocked.gif
It was always a huge deal if you DIDN'T have to hide your costume under a plastic poncho!

Kim, I'm like you...I kind of enjoy the rain, but hate the shorter, darker days. I run outdoors and do my pagan dance to celebrate the winter solstice -- yay, longer days!

I wouldn't mind the muddy corrals if I could walk barefoot through them, but bare feet are now forbidden.

I hate that our "driving arena" will soon become a swimming pool, or actually a boot-sucking mire that most likely is quicksand -- I just never dare stand in place to find out...

I feel your pain regarding your perlino -- with all of her white, Scarlet is not exactly at her best through the winter months.
