My grandson is competing in the Fencing Junior Olympics in Portland, OR this weekend. His first match is tomorrow. I think we can see it with streaming; looks like a MareStare type of setup. He is competing in Men's Foil, age 14- 17. He is only 14 so he will have some stiff competition, and against young men with more tournament experience. There are 198 fencers in his class. He said his goal it to make it into the top 50.

I admire his parents for the effort they are making to help him with this athletic adventure!

They have 6 children and are home schoolers.

(A couple of years ago his mom was laughing that she could not sword fight with him with Star Wars plastic light sabers, as he was too skillful.)

They are sight seeing today, going to the ocean and to sporting goods stores. His two younger sisters got to go along with dad and him.

That is awesome. Wish him luck from me!

Not sure I'll see it - have to be outside most of the rest of today and tomorrow. My farrier appointment was changed from today to Sunday morning - hope the snow has melted and it's a whole lot warmer than it is right now...

Congratulations and good luck! I was always fascinated by this sport, never had the chance to be exposed to it though. Impressive that a home-school, large family is making that commitment.

Be proud mom! Be proud gandmom!!

We tried to find a link to do the streaming, but looks as though that is not offered for the fencing. Pooh.

Makes me realize what a boon it is that we can watch the miniature horse events streaming.

He was eliminated quickly. Evidently the caliber of competition at that level is incredible. I know he is disappointed, but what an educational experience for him. You can see the size of his foe. He must have drawn a 17 year old the first round.
