We had a severe thunderstorm today; wind gusts around 50mph, hail, lightning. I thought I was in Kansas for a time.

Anyway, about an hour after the storm, this little guy showed up. He's been out a while, he's nothing but bone and feather. He's tame, obviously hand-raised but not banded. Darrin set him on the counter while he was getting the seed bowl opened up, and he just jumped in the bowl and started chowing down. He's done nothing but eat, drink and preen since he's been here. Lulu so badly wants to be friends with him. She tries to preen him, but he's just so worn out he wants nothing of it. I do wish I had a seperate cage for him, but tonight he'll have to put up with her fussing at him. We'll go to town tomorrow and see if we can find a reasonably priced cage and put out some flyers. With the winds the way they were, he could have blown in from Oregon! I don't think Lulu would mind much if he stuck around.

So here's the little storm trooper (he's the grey, Lulu is the white one):

AWWW how cute wonder how far he blew from LOL that was one heck of a storm let me tell you. I had to go get roof panels to one of my run ins they were in the pasture next door and it actually MOVED my 16x16 run in shed back about 5-6 in.. I thought me and my zoo might actually blow on by and visit you and Runamuk :new_shocked:

:new_shocked: What a lucky little guy to have landed at YOUR place!!! If he'd landed here, I wouldn't have a clue what to do with him as I'm not a bird person! I'll check around as I'm in Oregon and see if anyone is missing a bird

Oh - I think it was meant to be that he ended up at your place - seeing your a bird person and everything. I would bet by the time you get around to going to buy a cage for him - that he will be getting along with your Lulu. We ended up with a handfed cockatiel this same way - about five years ago and we still have him. If you want you can read "our story" on our website. Please keep us informed on his future! Wow!!! He is so lucky he blew over to the right place!!! I hope he sticks around, he is mighty cute!!!

We have a pair. My male had just lost his buddy and was very upset. We had to go get him another bird before he died of grief. He screamed for two days until since it was Christmas everything was closed. We got him a female this time since he was suppose to be a female.

: For two days they set away from each other and would not have anything to do with each other. It was neat to hear him singing again to his friend. Now they are mates.

I'm curious.

Surely he didn't blow onto your kitchen cabinet? How / where in the world did you find him and get your hands on him? Lucky little guy to find a bird house like yours.

I'm so glad he blew to the right house! I think Trooper would be a great name for him. I doubt you'll ever find his family.

So that's what happened to my bird! :new_shocked:

Just kidding, we have 40-45 mph winds today!!!!!!!! I should be used to it...........LOVELY KANSAS WIND!

Well, "Bosco" is doing really well, considering his condition when found. Nope, he wasn't found in the kitchen cupboard (though I have found other critters in there, I have a hilarious Thanksgiving story; now everyone is thinking "Don't eat at Suzanne's house" :new_shocked: ); he was found on a fence. I'm a bit worried about him because I've never seen/felt a bird so thin. But he's eating like a horse and looks bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. He wolf whistles, kisses and dances;

: he's tame, but needs encouragement

He hasn't acted amorous towards LuLu yet (though he does have a thing for Darrin's wedding ring), but I am a little concerned about the prospect of baby birds in our future. I've not heard of getting little boy birds tutored, so we may need to seperate them. We are taking him to a bird-only shop on Tuesday for a checkup, weigh-in and wing-clip (no more great adventures for this guy).

I'm actually hoping (and feeling really guilty about it) that we don't find his people. Terrible thought, I know. Darrin has become quite fond of the little fellow. LuLu has always been pensive about Darrin (big clumsy man hands), so now Darrin feels like we have 'his and her' birds. He named him. He plays with him. He locks up the dogs so Bosco can come out to play. We were each walking around with birds on our shoulders today. If we do find his family, I hope that they are good people.

GOOD BREAD ...........the best bread you canbuy...........will put weight on him without too much stress.....................skinny birds are scary........allow him lots of seed and good bread my favorite brand was polsbou (washington company)...........not too many greens until he gets his weight up..............good whole wheat pasta brown rice and plain popcorn also can put weight back on a bird quick.........cuttle bone and grit ad lib......and clean water..............he will be fine you are good bird parents :bgrin

Ohhh poor man! I LOVE this story!

Your little female reminds me of the cartoon chicken looking for a man, Prissy! I bet he was in her little birdie prayers every night! Then Ta-Da!

This is amazing that you found him. I'm so glad he is in a good home and doing well.

How is Bosco? did you get the new cage??

Would love to hear more.
