I lost a foal yesterday, it didn't make it out of the sack. I'm kicking myself, had I been there this probably could of been prevented. I've been waiting for a foal from this breeding for 2 years now. I have one more foal due and hopefully it will have a better outcome.

I am so sorry you lost your foal...I hope the next foaling will turn out well for you..

These things happen. Mares are tricky and foaling is fast. It's hard to be there every minute of the day so don't be too hard on yourself.

I'm so sorry. We lost a filly the same way this year, I've been breeding a dozen years (plus big horses) but it still happens, first one we've lost that way though.

So sorry, Leslie.

We've had 5 foals this year and all but 1 surprised the heck out of us when their milk pH dropped very very quickly. And twice I was asleep and someone watching the internet cam called to wake me up. Those bags are so thick... I'm sure we'd have lost 2 because the mare didn't even get up for several minutes which is probably the only thing that might have broken the bag.

MareStare and testing the milk has proven successful for us so far.

I am counting my blessings and feeling very lucky.

Good luck with the next one.

So sorry for your loss.

A few years ago I was watching two mares that I knew would foal that night (pre camera days), All was peaceful so I decided to go make myself a sandwich and a flask of coffee. Returned 20 minutes later with my supplies to find a mare that was not expected to foal, had foaled - filly dead in the bag. I still think of that night and say 'if only......'. The other two mares of course duly foaled one after the other that night, just as I thought they would. But their two healthy babies never made up for the loss of the little one I wasn't there for.

Hugs for your mare - I hope she is coping ok with her loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know that feeling all too well...happened to me last year, and was my own fault for not putting the BreederAlert on her as soon as I brought her in. I opted to wait until the following morning to put it on her, and I paid for that delay with my colt's life.

my heart goes out to you. i recently lost my only foal this year. My 6 yr old mare who has foaled before was in labor. I was there when my mare started foaling the foal got stuck. The vet and I did everthing to save the pretty sorrel pinto filly, she was perfect in everyway. I still cry about losing my sweet filly. I was there and still couldn't save her, i feel your pain.I am blessed my mare is okay. The foal got stuck and her cord broke so it cut off her oxygen supply. i watch her take her last breath very hard to watch. helpless.I pray next her my mare has a healthly foal.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have been there and know nothing I say will make you feel better. But I truly am sorry and don't beat yourself up, sometimes it happens for a reason.
