Six months ago I went for my annual mammogram. The radiologist said I should come back in six months because I had some calcifications. Today I had my second mammo and now I'm told that this needs immediate attention and they need to come out. Now, the mammogram place doesn't tell you much, just that they will fax the results to my regular OB/GYN and that I should make an appointment to see him as soon as possible. Naturally tomorrow afternoon, after I am sure the results are there, I'll call and get in to see him. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? I'm a tad anxious, of course. I really won't know anything more until I can get in to see my doctor.

Found this... hope it helps u feel better to read more information... I personally can't stand waiting for results and get frustrated from the "wait and see the next guy" excuse. Sounds like from this article that calcifications shouldnt be ignored, but aren't necessarily bad yet but if ignored could possibly develop into something later. They talk about the 6 month check up in this article and describe different types of calcifications.

best wishes. alot of information on this article, I only skimmed it, but it looked very informative. They probably saw some changes in the calcification at your check up and want you to be proactive and that is not a bad thing. take care.

Hang in there, it could be calcium deposits, they may want to do a biopsy. Be thankful they are taking it seriously rather than taking a passive wait and see approach.

I have heard that it is good just to remove and biopsy rather than biopsy and remove. Often disturbing things with biopsy is not a good thing for things repeating. If they offer to just remove and biopsy after removal that is a good thing. Have a friend that has gone through having calcifications removed. She had one reoccurance and they radiated it to be sure. Has been fine for many years and they keep close eye on her and everything they have told her to do has worked out fine.

I have breast cancer in my family so must get a mammo every year, they are recommending it now instead of every two yrs. Anyhow, I had a lump removed it was benign, then two yrs later I had calcification show up in the mammo, my doctor sent me for a sono, then I went to womans health center they shot me up with novacain and and removed the calcuim deposits using a procedure called, (hope I spell it right) Sterotactic, it felt like a little pinch, I could feel the pressure, but it was endurable. They sent it for biopsy and it was also benign. Then my oldest daughter got breast cancer in her late 30's, had to endure chemo for a yr. but now is fine. Just my luck a few yrs. ago I had to have another biopsy, also benign. I go for my yrly mammo next month, sometimes I get so scared I start shaking as soon as I walk in the door. I would recommend you get a sono first, then removal, usually, per my doctor, these things are benign but should be removed when found. Good Luck.

Yes, I have first hand experience with the same. Your doctor possibly will biopsy, there is a procedure that uses ultrasound and needle biopsy, or surgical biopsy, but there may be more up to date things to do now. Glad you had the mammo, hope all goes well for you!

I made an appointment with my OB/GYN for Friday morning at 11:00. I'd love to have gotten in sooner as this is weighing heavily on my mind, but such is life. I can't get all upset now as I don't have all the facts. And, of course, yesterday when we returned from town with the bad news about the mammo, our a/c went out. Really? It couldn't have waited a day? Come on. Sigh.

Just got a phone call from my OB/GYN's office. They have cancelled my appointment with them and made one directly with a surgeon. So, next Wednesday, on my birthday none-the-less, I'll be sitting in a surgeon's office discussing my left breast. Oddly enough, this is the same surgeon who did my colonoscopy, so he knows me up close and personal, so to speak. LOL

They tell me not to worry, that it's probably nothing, but then they send me directly to a surgeon. I figure this next week will be a tad stressful.

I did get them to read the results of my mammo. Seems like I have two suspicious areas, possibly calsifications at 12:00 that warrant a biopsy. Oh joy. We'll see what the surgeon suggests next week. Until then, life goes on.

I need ice cream....chocolate.

I wish I could give you a {{{Hug}}} and a bowl of chocolate ice cream.

toll house cookies. Best wishes. Soooooo glad you are going directly to surgeon, that is good thing. Often by the time you see one doctor to be sent to the next things can get worse. I LOVE when doctors move fast. Its the waiting game that is so stressful. Hang in there and keep us posted. Chocolate icecream right out of the container.

Happy Birthday a little early.

Chocolate always helps.

It's scary, but I'd think it's best to find things out early.

I had a lump a half dozen years ago; they did the ultrasound and couldn't figure it out. Vice risking needle biopsy (which apparently is not as accurate/definitive) they cut it out and biopsied. All was well. Funny thing is, it left a much larger scar than my hip replacement.

Good luck!!!!

I had a lump found two years ago now. Did a needle biopy, but the doc wasn't satisfied. Did a lumpectomy, found it was cancerous and then I did radiation.

Almost three years cancer free now.

We're here for you, holding your hand.

I'm pretty nervous, although I try not to think about it. But I did go out and buy some really expensive hair conditioner. I'm so cheap, I've never bought the good stuff. I figure if I'm gonna lose my hair, I'd like to see what it feels like to treat it really nice. LOL Hubby just laughed. The worst part is this waiting stuff. Wednesday is a consult with the surgeon. I'm sure he's going to schedule some type of procedure. So more waiting. I'd just as soon start the ball rolling right away. I try to do the "go on as normal" routine, but it's always there in the back of my mind. You know, the "what if" stuff.

Just ot put your mind at ease, my doctor said the 90% fo these calcifications are benign, they remove them so nothing does develope. Hang in there girl.

Field of Dreams, my duaghter has now also been cancer free for three years, congratulations to you!

Absolutely congrats to all those that have battle the big C- I just hate it.

I hope that things will be ok.. stay positive- I am sure they are just wanting to make SURE and stay on top of things. Good luck- hugs to you and did you buy a carton of chocolate ice cream with that conditioner?

You are in my prayers for a good report. Hang in there. Waiting is always tough.

I went through this over 20 years ago. Things may have changed a bit since then, but there is still waiting involved, sad to say. I kept going back for mammograms every 6 months to keep an eye on the calcifications and then one visit they decided something had changed and time for a needle biopsy. My procedure was done in the hospital as an outpatient procedure, with local anesthetic (my choice), They removed tissue at the same time, which was a bit scary, especially since they never told me it would grow back. IT DOES. Biopsy was benign and I was back riding my horse in no time at all. I went and bought him a longe line and halter to celebrate! I still feel as though removing those calcifications may have stopped something worse from developing.

Best of luck to you.
