Since I am possibly rethinking my little herd I was wondering about this pattern....if he also has blue eyes he carries splash..correct? Are they good color producers.....do you still test for frame or....wait they are unrelated to the LWO gene if I remember right....no, thats not right, its sabino that is unrelated..gosh, isn't it fun reading my discussion with myself

..this is sooo interesting to me..all these genes...hee hee designer genes..sort of what one does when you form a herd. I would love to see yours......

Our overoloosa carries splash, has the bald face and bright blue eyes and tested LWO negative..

Here is a picture of my max expression stallion he is LWO pos.

I have a maximum sabino mare and she has produced 4 max foals all by different sires for me. I have tried with an appy stud, a blue eyed splash buckskin, a bay overo with one partial blue eye, and a non-fading b/w toby. All her babies have the black eyes. Her name is Del Terra Music City. I also saw one of her sons at the Ft. Worth sale a few years ago that was another clone of her. Wish I had a solid stud to try. The babies all have the black spots on their skin that show up when they are wet.

Are you asking about a max sabino or max overo?? I know years ago I talked to Lisa D about this when I bought white chief (max overo) They usually carry all the pinto genes in one horse. Frame, Tobiano, Sabino, Splash. Sometimes you will see just dots of color in the ears. Lisa has more of these then any farm I know. I know she said hers are 100 percent color producers

Both splash and sabino are unrelated to OLW. Frame IS OLW. But a horse can have any combo of the three, including having all three.

Blue eyes can be caused by splash or frame. Not sabino.
