Ok does anyone else find it un-amusing that AMHR has gone up so much in price and is now more expensive for their membership than AMHA? AMHA is $55.00 and AMHR is $ 65.00

Not like we don't already have to pay out the nose for everything else right now (gas, heating oil, and basically anything you can think of)sorry but i think that's pretty rediculous you have to pay that much just to be a member and you HAVE to be a member to do any paperwork. I'm getting frustrated with my whole paperwork stuff and either never having the money or having to get photo's of the horses to be able to do paperwork, which is almost impossible when it's just one person...now i'm getting late fee's on everything.. i'm about ready to just say to heck with it and let all the paperwork go and not bother with registration stuff anymore!! sorry..just have to vent

I know how you feel. I started with R work, 65 for membership, 15 for each horse transfer. I'm scared to start doing A work!

Boinky,

I have to agree with you on the money issue. I was shocked to see that membership went up that much and that it was actually more than AMHA. Plus you end up having to pay late fees for stuff. I know we all need to be diligent in sending in our paperwork, but my goodness we are getting inundated with fees for this and fees for that. I understand it costs money to employ the people to do the work and to pay the overhead of running the business, but wow it is hard to keep up with the amount of money that goes out on our farm. I filled out all the futurity nomination forms this weekend for both our local club and amhr and it came to over 300.00.....and that is only breeding a few of our horses. Plus having to send in all the paperwork for the horses going perm, and the final foal applications and the stallion reports.....the paperwork never ends.

The picture issue is one that really bothers me. Pictures for the original application, then more pics for transfer, then more pics for temp to perm then more pics for leases then more for stallion to gelding.......geez. I think I will just make multiple copies and keep a folder of them. Then when one need pics I will just take them out of the folder and send them in. Do you think anyone will notice that he is 3 years old and the pic I sent in is only a weany pic????

OK OK I'll comply....

I don't think it's too much... the fee hasn't gone up in a very long time. I don't mind the fees... it's part of having registered horses (which have the option of breeding and showing, in my opinion).

I am getting sick of it too!!!! I was shocked at the price. It is not enjoyable when the rates are so high. Esp since I got out of showing. I keep up with it for the linage but who needs that when the cost is outragous!!! I know they have to pay employes and things are not cheap but come on. I was going to hardship 2 mares this yr. But I think I am going to pass. They are not being shown so why bother????

I think both registries are crazy with prices. I am always getting hit with late fees. I see no reason WHY you HAVE to be a member to have a horse registered. I dont show, so personally I dont "get" that much out of the Journal, and could definitely do without that magazine coming, all mine do is stack up. I think if they want you to be a member just to register a horse they could offer another way to do it. It is costing a fortune just to register, and I have wondered too, if it is worth it, but then I think of the horse and I do it. :DOH! because I do believe bloodlines are important and that is the only way to tell, and have those registrations follow the horse for its lifetime.

you think you have it bad.

Canadians is now $76.00,

I just called into AMHR and did my membership over the phone.

& just got off the phone with AMHA and my membership cost is $75.00

No difference between AMHR & AMHA anymore here in Ontario Canada.....

So glad I kept up with my AMHA now....

When I looked into becoming an AMHA member 3 years ago it was $85.00 for membership - I am glad to see it is down to $55.00, might just send in my membership now.

I can't honestly say, but I know AMHR has been revamping a lot of behind the scenes stuff, which they haven't raised their membership fees for ages. It didn't surprise me this year. Although I agree it took a hike.

It is the cost of owning reg. horses.

I have not found that I need to put in new photos everytime a horse is transferred. If a horse has never had photos sent in from original registration, then you need to send in a set. I bought a horse that was a weanling last year and a yearling. The weanling had its photos already on the new paperwork. The yearling was registered the year before. I sent in the transfer work. The weanling went through without a hitch. The yearling came back and the request was for photos. Now she has them and there shouldn't be a need for any further photos unless someone who buys her from me wishes to update them.

Thankfully we are not like the APHA or AQHA that does require new photos every transfer or the POA which requires very specific photos.

My biggest peeve about AMHR is the photos...that is why I am going to get hit with late fees AGAIN. I have 9 horses that all need to go from T to P , all need pictures, we're in the middle of winter and all my horses have long shaggy coats and I am not going to send in pic like that, so the T top P will have expired and I will have to pay double. I HATE having to do those darn pictures for everything.

muffntuf it is my understanding that all paperwork needs photo's.

I thought I was the only one feeling like the price is way too high. If their going to do that they need not to require us to me members to do registry work. I can't afford it. My horses health comes before the registry. It wouldn't bother me so bad If I could afford It. I have a few horses registered AMHA but I can't afford to do both registries. Now I don't even know If I can do AMHR.

I thought with the new papers that we don't have to get photos!!!!!

I'm confused!

skanzler - all new transfers that don't have photos on paperwork already, update status from temp to perm, and all new registrations-- need photos.

If you have a horse that is already registered and permanent previously and are doing nothing with it, you don't have to send in photos for it.

IF a horse that has pictures on the new registration papers already, you do not need to submit new pics for it.

I think it is just a slight miscommunication here. It's almost all paperwork.

I don't have a problem with the cost of membership. BUT i do have a problem with the fact that we can't just be members.....that we have to have the magazines too. Our membership could cost us a lot less if it wasn't for the World and Journal magazines.

I was thinking about the "Membership without the Journal" thing... because you can get the Journal for $30 a year, or be a Member AND get the Journal for $65... so Membership could only be $35...

BUT...

It helps fuel the marketing and advertising if the Journal is sent to EVERY member... the ads are more likely to be seen by a wide range of people. Most people will at least flip through their Journal, right? I bet no one gets it and throws it right in the trash without opening the plastic?

So... I bet MOST people would just opt to pay half the price for membership and not get the Journal if they had the option, and that would result in a poorer-quality Journal due to decreased advertising, etc.

So sorry, after some thought I think it's better for the Registry to keep things exactly the way they are.

There was some Forum grumblings about cost of membership right after they raised the fee... most of us have gotten over it

My horses are both AMHA and AMHR registered, so I have to do double of everything. Since I do not show AMHR I hate having to give them the money. I have gotten to the point of sending in the stallion reports, registering every horse I am keeping, but the foals are just AMHR eligible. The cost was getting way too expensive for both clubs. It cost me several hundred dollars this year with stallion reports, double registering foals, permanent papers for both A and R, membership fees for both clubs, etc.

Also, why can not AMHR be happy with the same photos that AMHA is. We have to take extra photos for AMHR which is very frustrating, especially since I too am here by myself.

What is the difference in the pics needed for R versus A? SHould be front, back, side and side.

I know I have quite a few of the Journals sitting in my book case, with the plastic still on. The magazine to me..seems to be geared more towards the Shetland (I have no problems with shetlands, I own a few and love them) but if we are members for the miniature horse some of the issues have very little in it and just seems to be more shetland related. Maybe its just me
default_unsure.png
I do think we should have our choice of receiving the Journal or the World, or not..with our memberships, but like I said..I dont show. I can see where the magazine would be great asset for those that do show.

I do not think the prices are to bad, then agian, im not renewing my AMHA membership this year bc i only have one horse that is AMHA but he is also AMHR luckly, just amhr/aspc for me. I did the math, that comes down to you paying $.21 a day technically to be a member. I guess they have to raise it eventually.

I just sent in $254 for membership, reg, transfers, dads membership/ammy card.

The fee doesnt bother me to much, but i obvioulsy would not have any problem if it was lower

. Its just the price you pay to show and own registered horses.
