and I'm all alone up here

The side of the mountain caught fire today.

It worked it's way up here and took out 1 house along the way, but so far, no one has been hurt. It's about 6 miles away from me right now, but doesn't seem to be getting closer but I can smell the smoke inside my house.

We've got 45 mph winds gusting that is not helping matters, and storm warnings are up, but so far, no rain.

We have nothing much in the way of a fire department, just one old firetruck from the 60's that doesn't usually run, but help finally showed up from surrounding counties and North Georga. They can't get us any copters here due to the high winds that could blow them into the mountain. They are trying to push it back down the mountain and get it away from all our farms. Everyone's got their dozers out and are working hard.

Jerry can't get home right now as the roads are closed so he's going to try to get up here another way. So far, no one is evacuating and everyone is staying to protect their homes. If we had to evacuate, we've got a big horse trailer and we can jam Sonny and everyone into it if needbe and get off the mountain the back way. They should all fit but if not, one of us can always ride Sonny out of here. I don't think it will come to that with all this help. I already told Jerry I'm staying because I'm not loosing my new barn.

We can't find the boys, but Michael, my oldest is a trained volunteer firefighter and he's very good at it. We think that he is right in the thick of it.

Please say a little prayer for all of us and and our little community up here.

Jeez, Marty, I wish I could send you some of this rain we've had to help put it out.

I hope the fire is brought under control without any more significant damage. Keep us updated as I know we will all be worrying about you. Wish I were closer to offer help w/my trailer, but by the time I got there, I just know it'd be all over. *LOL*

That is too scary!! Keep up posted Marty! Good thoughts and prayers coming your way!!

OMG Marty,.....That is just too scary,...Prayers,best wishes and hugs coming your way!!!,..I will be checking in here most of the night to make sure that you and your family and beloved Prancers are ok.

I am praying for a lot of rain tonight for your precious mountain and for the wind to die down!

I hate fires. We had one near us last week and it took a long time for it to be put out. Started with someone burning leaves and got out of control and burned 2000 acres of our National forestland.

Little Update: Jerry's home. Came up the back way.

It's pouring down rain YAY!

Another home lost however but no one was hurt. Very sad because they were very nice older people but they do have lots of family up here to go to. Many sons and daughters and grandkids.

Cattle was let loose out of their fields to save them and they are roaming about, but that's ok, everyone knows who owns them and will be caught up later on sometime.

Michael is in fact fighting the fire. He called and said it is being contained by lots of dozers about 5 miles from us. Rain is helping out a lot now and wind is not as bad as it was eariler.

The smell of smoke in the house and outside is nasty.

OMG Marty, you just make sure you and your family and all your animals stay as safe as possible! I hate to hear of any fire being so close...5 miles is really not that far! If need be, you just gather up everyone pack them all into your horse trailer, and get your butt up here by me.

: I would feel much better knowing you are definitely safe from the fire. Corinne

Marty, hoping all will be well with you & your family & animals. Being born & raised in Pike County Kentucky I remember all too well the mountains burning around us almost every year. The crackling of the fire & the trees falling, scary indeed. Bless you all & stay safe!

It was 3 miles away from us, not 5 Jerry said.

Looks pretty good now. The fire seems to be under control.

Michael said the roads are covered with tons and tons of frogs all over it. He said he's never seen so many frogs in his life!

I'll see if I can get down that way tomorrow and take some pictures.

Makes me so mad though that the forest is destroyed, yet again by fire. Deer and other wildlife loosing their homes too. Sad.

Oooowwww what a scarey ordeal! Glad to hear things are simmering down now tho...yoll stay safe up there!

Marty,

Came on all this late.......Please keep us posted on the clean-up and how your son is.

We live in a forest fire area and know what it's like........
