and I'm all alone up here
The side of the mountain caught fire today.
It worked it's way up here and took out 1 house along the way, but so far, no one has been hurt. It's about 6 miles away from me right now, but doesn't seem to be getting closer but I can smell the smoke inside my house.
We've got 45 mph winds gusting that is not helping matters, and storm warnings are up, but so far, no rain.
We have nothing much in the way of a fire department, just one old firetruck from the 60's that doesn't usually run, but help finally showed up from surrounding counties and North Georga. They can't get us any copters here due to the high winds that could blow them into the mountain. They are trying to push it back down the mountain and get it away from all our farms. Everyone's got their dozers out and are working hard.
Jerry can't get home right now as the roads are closed so he's going to try to get up here another way. So far, no one is evacuating and everyone is staying to protect their homes. If we had to evacuate, we've got a big horse trailer and we can jam Sonny and everyone into it if needbe and get off the mountain the back way. They should all fit but if not, one of us can always ride Sonny out of here. I don't think it will come to that with all this help. I already told Jerry I'm staying because I'm not loosing my new barn.
We can't find the boys, but Michael, my oldest is a trained volunteer firefighter and he's very good at it. We think that he is right in the thick of it.
Please say a little prayer for all of us and and our little community up here.
