OK here us the deal. My boyfriend and me are both on tight budgets so I said that this year we would make each other a gift for Valentines Day. I thought it was a great idea because I love it when someone gives me something they put the time into making….OK well I dug myself in a big fat hole

Can you bake?? You could always make some special cookies for him......guys love food!

I made Darrin a little photo album once. It's 4X6 and holds 18 or 20 pictures. I put in pictures of all the animals, the farm, the crops he raised, his tractor (he loves his tractor

: ) and other shots that mean a lot to him. I doodad'd it up and made it cute, in a masculine way. He has to spend a lot time either in a dialysis chair or at the hosptial and he loves to show off the pictures of his life. The album is now worn out and I need to make him a new one.

I saw a similar idea on TV once. It was a recipie box, converted into a picture holder, made to put on a man's desk. The sides of the box had slips, so you could take a picture out of the box and slip it in where it could be seen, and change the pictures easily every so often. The lady on the show made the box an outdoor theme, even attached a fly to the lid, and filled it with his hunting and fishing pictures.

Another time I bought this really cool stainless steel heart-shaped bowl and filled it with homemade cookies and candy. Once all of the goodies were gone, he put the bowl on his nightstand and uses it for whatever he takes out of his pockets at night. The bowl doesn't count as homemade, but the yummies do!

And there's always my favorite thing to make.... reservations! :bgrin

How about get an inexpensive picture frame, decorate it up a little and put a picture of the two of you in it.

What about letting him choose a dinner and you fix it for him??

In my experience, if you are broke, just tell them (the man) that you would love to just spend time together. That being with him is gift enough.

I'd make heart shaped cookies and then decorate them with pink and/or red icing. You could write little messages on them like those candy hearts. ("I love you", "Be Mine", etc) Maybe do a single letter on each cookie and he has to figure out a message, like one cookie with "I", one with "L", one with "O", etc to spell out "I love you" with the cookies.

Cook him up a nice special dinner with wine and a cheese plate.......add a neat video you both have'nt seen yet. Make the evening unforgettable.

Thanks so much for all the great ideas! It was very helpful!

I already made him a scrapbook for our 2 year, but I have a bunch of pages and event that I can add in.

The Food is a good idea. The has 2 things on his mind and that is food and hockey so maybe I will make him a big dinner and we can watch the hockey game together...it is a big thing for me to sit down and watch a hockey game.

: I'm not the best cook in the world, but he will always eat what I make and say it is the best he has ever had (little white lie).

Thanks a ton!

My boyfriend and I just had our one year aniversary of our first date. I wanted to do something special for him, and as much as he can be the romantic gooey mushy type when I want him to, I thought it would be even MORE special if I did things HE would enjoy. So for dinner we had homemade pizza and cokes and I bought him a "bargain bin" Elvis movie. We had pizza and pop and a movie and it was all very enjoyable. I had the crusts and toppings ready and we put the toppings on together and then chatted and relaxed while the cooked. It was a great night!

I also do little things for him like print out song lyrics when I'm on campus because we don't have a printer at home. Or do his dishes for him so when he gets home from work he can just cook dinner. Oh, and of course I pay attention to which of my outfits he likes the best and if its a special day I laways make sure I'm wearing something he really likes!

Do you paint? How about getting a cookie tin and painting somethign on the front for him (related to fav sport or hobby etc). My boyfriend loves containers that he can tuck recipts, recipe cards, and other assorted small items into. Or you could fill it with cookies.

Call his mom and find out all his favorite recipies from when he was a kid and write them on recipe cards for him and put them in a recipe card holder. Make him his favorite for dinner!

Well i'm not sure if this is in the categorie of "making something without buying something" OR if your boyfriend wears jewelry but...here's what I did and at first I sheepishly gave it to my b/f thinking he would laugh at me because it's a bracelet but, he's been wearing it for 2 years now!!

You know those link bracelets with italian charms? I bought one of those, a simple one for my b/f and added letters and a silver heart (nothing too girly) that spells "I <3 S T E F F" and I had a photo of us reduced down into one of the picture italian charms =) He LOVES it and wont leave the house without it! Didn't cost that much either, maybe 15 bucks total?

I have one too but it's really girly =) lol!! Mine says "I <3 J O E" with our photo in one of the links. =)

Oh, I just thought of something else! I got a "handmade" mug for Christmas. Its just a plain coffee mug from the local dollar store. It was white when it was bought. My boyfriends sister used perminent Sharpie markers (colored ones) to draw and write on it. She also had special stamps from her mom, but those are expensive so you would want to do this free hand LOL Make sure you let it dry really well before washing and only handwash without scrubbing. I wash the ones she made for herself and her brother all the time, and the marker doesn't wear off unless you scrub with a scrub pad. Mine is on my desk holding my pens so the cat doesn't run off with them!
