Well, we went from miniature horses to miniature birds. Please welcome "Tweety Bird" to our family. He is a Fife Canary and is just so dang cute. I love, love, love to hear him sing. He seems to be a happy little guy (once we took him to the vet and had his leg band removed).

I found that once we left the farm and I only had one four legged "child" I really missed my animals. Wait.....Tweety doesn't have four legs either......anyway I decided I needed something else to love on. I was going to get a parakeet but NOOOOOOO, a friend of mine had to send me a recording of a canary singing. That did it. I HAD to have a canary. Some friend he turned out to be. Ended up costing me an extra $125!!! Maybe I should send him a bill? Just a thought.

Tweety makes me smile. I can sit and just watch him jump around and sing. I'm in love with him and I've only had him a couple of days.

Birds can be a lot of fun. Is Tweety male or female? How old?

We have a conure and cockatiel.......and then of course a bunch of chickens outside.

He's young, hatched this past Spring. And I was told by the breeder that it's a male. I couldn't attest to that, of course, but it doesn't matter as long as he sings. (which he does). We had him less than 24 hours and already had him at the vet's office. He came with a leg band and he was constantly biting at it, just worrying at it and he had a little, tiny sore spot where his beak was digging into his little leg. We called around and found an avian vet, took him in and had that dang band removed. He is so much happier now. Poor little guy. Evidently there is a special tool required to remove that band. It's made out of stainless steel. I was afraid of hurting his leg if I tried to remove it. I'm a tad neurotic about my children....er....um....pets. LOL

When I was a kid we always had canaries. Our first one was named Bing (after Bing Crosby). Only the males sing.

As an adult we had cockatiels, they made great pets when tamed, they would snuggle under our hair at the back of necks! and ride around on shoulders.

wow that takes me back. I love to hear a canary sing but I've not seen or heard one in years. Good luck with the little fellow! he's so cute.
