This BIG boy arrived about 1:15am. He is all of 24.5-25" tall with a mid-knee to coronet measurement of about 8.5"-8.75"!! Much taller than I expected coming from a 31.5"(or less) sire and a 35" or less dam. BUT, that would explain why Colors look like this...

He is so tall, he had trouble getting the right nursing position figured out, and took him 2.5 hours to nurse, but then after he figured it out, there was no stopping him! He nursed almost non-stop for a half hour...his Mom was getting fed up with him for it. LOL! He also showed me something new...he passed his meconium before he ever got to his feet! I've never seen that before!

But his size aside, he is GORGEOUS!! Or at least I think so!!

Congratulations on a beautiful boy! I love his color! Speaking of tall, our oldest broodmare just foaled Sunday morning. He's the tallest foal we've ever had! His cannon bones measure between 9.5 to 10 inches! I don't even think he can be registered in AMHR! And both parents are AMHA/AMHR!

Glad he found the milk bar!!

Thats always such a worry. And also amazing how "instinct" takes over.

He is a beauty!! Whats with the huge foals? My 11 month old colts canons are 7 inches! I am hoping my foal due this year is taller for driving! It seems there is alot of "larger" foals being born this year!

WOW! Nice baby and topped off by great color! Congratulations!

What a nice healthy looking foal Mona!!! And yes, I have a mare at home that looks like that! Have never seen her this big- told the neighbors I think she'll have a 32" baby! LOL

He is a nice one! Congrats to you AND his new owners. I am sure they will be happy with that one!

He sure is a NICE boy no matter what size!!!

I can see him making a nice show gelding for his lucky new folks!!!

He is a very nice colt, glad he got out of the mare ok, she's probably relieved she doesn't have to carry him around any longer! I'll bet the new owners are thrilled with him!

Mona Congratulations on a very very nice colt he is one handsome fellow. We have had some big mares but your mare is the largest I have seen. Glad that everything went alright.

Thanks everyone! Marnie and Fran...yes, I was worried too that he was not going to "make it out"! I really had to pull hard! He just didn;t seem to be budging, and I thought or sure he must have been hung up on something in there! I did manage finally to get him out, and poor ol' mama could hardly stand when she got up...just weak and wobbly in the back end. I think if I would have blown on her it would have knocked her over!

She's OK now though, and that tippiness never lasted long...I think probably it was just the pressure on nerves or something.

Mona, he is GORGEOUS!!!
