Hello,

I am new here, and was wondering how everyone got started in minis, and how you grew. As of right now I have a stallion a mare and the filly out of the mare (from a different stallion). The filly is very well put together, and I am interested in showing her, however I thought about selling her to get one or two more mares. Would it be worth keeping her/showing her until she is old enough to breed then breeding her, or sell her for older mares to breed.

Also can you co-own a mare, and how would you go about doing that.

Thank you so much for your time.

I will try to get a photo soon.

! I think that there is anouther post going on right now about how people got started in miniatures if you want to check that out. As for keeping your filly or selling her and getting mature mares, I think that's up to you. If you really like her and enjoy her and you think she'll fit in with your future plans I'd say keep her! It will also give you a chance to learn more about miniatures and exactly what you want to and don't want to breed for, rather then just jumping right in. Good luck and I can't wait to see pictures of your little guys!!

You can read 'in detail' story about how i got my first mini and how far we have come over the past year and half or two. www.freewebs.com/greencreekstable <Go to where it says 'Our Story' and you can read all the details if you'd like.

I started out with VERY little horse knowlege and it took my a while to find something that i really enjoyed with the breed and over last fall/winter i really struggled trying to find what i wanted to do. I went back and forth for a while but this year i started showing and have really dedicated allot of time toward it bc i just love it. I'd say we have come a long way with our horses.

I started out with unregistered miniatures but we have come so far and now i show AMHR/ASPC classes. Today our bloodlines are pretty nice. It was hard in the beginning bc i knew i wanted to be really involved in this breed but couldnt figure out what exactly it was i wanted to do. Today i know

Welcome to the forum!! I got into mini's after I had a bad spill off a horse. Broke my ankle and heel, 4 surgeries and 2 1/2 years later I was finally back to work. Had had horses all my adult life and still loved them though just don't have the "want to" to ride anymore.(I did get back on a few times but no fun!). So all my big horses except "old Joe" ,who's 33 now and retired, have new homes. I had a friend who was showing mini's in Pinto and I thought "why not". Now I have an even dozen of the little beggers and love them to pieces! I did pick my breeding stock carefully though for conformation, temperment, ancestry, and then color as I show Pinto mostly. Good luck with yours!! :bgrin

I started with big horses and got a mini and a small pony because I thought they'd be nice to keep on or property (big horses are boarded) and just nice "pets".

We went from wanting pets, to driving, to showing and now starting to breed some of our best horses.

I remember thinking there was no way I'd enjoy the minis as much as our big horses, but it turns out I enjoy the minis the most and barely ever ride anymore.
