Just out of curiosity I went to the color calculator web site and put in the colors of the sire and dam of my new horse and couldn't come up with silver buckskin. From what i've found, her sire is a sorrel pinto and her dam is a dun (not sure what color dun). Could she be something different then a silver buckskin?

No way to be certain without doing DNA color testing.

She could be silver bay dun (I have one about that color, mine's a little darker - she's the dark palomino looking mare in my avatar - tested EE, Aa, no cream). Have you seen the parents in person to verify their colors? could the sire be silver bay instead of sorrel? We all know that the colors on papers aren't always accurate especially when it comes to silvers.

Her Dam could also be a Buckskin Dun (Dunskin)

Alot of the Times Registries get colors wrong - I would Suggest Test

Here is: Old Stage Bit of Vegas in The Buff - "Starlet"

my 2007 Buckskin Dun Mare - She is Registered as a "Dun"

but was tested and Confirmed to Carry the Cream Gene as well

Sire is a Grullo and Dam is a Sooty Buckskin

The sire looks like a silver bay rather than a sorrel to me...very pretty guy and the dam does look buckskin though she may have silver in there too. Yours looks to be a silver buckskin as does the dam. JMO!!

I agree the sire looks like a silver bay and the dam looks buckskin. She could be carrying the dun gene.

I also think that your mare looks like either a silver buckskin or palomino. Only way to know for sure is to test. Ive got a buckskin colt here that anyone would swear is a bay. But he is in fact buckskin. Sire is a cremello and he has been PQ'd and lab tested to carry one cream and one agouti. You just cant go on looks alone.

I personally think your horse is palomino

I personally think your mare is a smutty palomino. I see a lot of gray hairs in her mane, and that would come from the smutty gene.

Her legs appear to be the same colour as her body. If they have a smoky shading that would make her a silver buckskin.

Do you have any pictures that include her legs?

Huh, I certainly do not see silver bay when I look at her sire. I see sorrel/chestnut. Her dam does look silver buckskin to me; I can't tell if she is dun or not. For your girl, I agree with the last couple posts that she looks like a palomino.

We have a son of Brewer's Orion Elite One, his name is Ventura's Elite Cruiser. He is a sorrel/chestnut pinto. You can see him on our website.

Congrats on your new mare.

I don't have any pics of her legs yet but from what I can tell, they are the same color as her body.

No way is that mini Silver Bay. Have had to many born here over the years and have seen all shades.

I would say to get this pretty girl tested, though UC Davis. If I had to guess... would say smutty palomino.
