Jerry's work van got broken into while he was in town.

They stole some power tools.

Jerry was so mad. He can't stand anyone touching his tools. He goes nuts if any of us use any. He's real particular about his tools.

They broke the steering column on the van too and busted in the locks and a window.

Jerry called the sheriff who is his good buddy and made a report, then they both went directly to the Pawn shop and recoverd the stolen stuff right away. The Pawn shop owner gave them the information on who these guys were and they were picked up within a few hours and thrown in jail. There's no bail because they are already on probabation.

The van is old so we only had minium insurance on it so it's getting junked. State Farm told him that if it happend on our property some insurance would have kicked in.

In these cases we can ask the court mediator to get us restitution so we can get back atleast what the van was worth at time of the robbery so that's pretty cool. The sheriff listed worth of the van and tools at $1500 for him.

Jerry's so sad, well, more mad than sad. He loved his crappy old work van,. It ran good and was always reliable and had all new really good tires just put on it for winter; so this means he'll have to get another one that's parked back here behind that garage up and running now. One less in my vehicle graveyard.

The crooks said they did it to buy beer for the weekend. I knew it, I just knew it. They were getting ready for a weekend of party. I swear, some people.

people are nuts *sigh*

some young kids (under 18) robbed 5 people here the other day, broke the hip/leg on an elderly lady for about 12 dollars.

people need to learn yours and mine soon, respect for other peoples things.

Oh Marty, I am sorry, we have been the victim of that before. Someone broke into my husbands shop, off our propery, drove their van in and shut the door while they completely cleaned us of all of his tools, welders, torches, cutters, everything worth any value. About 5 years later they caught the people and they still had possession of some of the equipment. Our insurance only covered about 5000 of an estimated 30000 claim.

Can you at least get the tires and anything else good off the van to help fix up another?

The things people will do. Some men broke into our big shed/storage barn one night while I was home alone. They took my husband's tools, my bicycle, 4 (nice) saddles, an air compressor, and several other items.

Well, apparantly they weren't too smart. They kept the tools & air compressor, and dumped the 4 saddles and my bike down the road. Just one of the saddles alone was worth more than all of the tools combined, but they weren't smart enough to know that. And I got my bike back!!!

So we at least got the stuff that was "worth" something, but it made me feel very unsafe being at that place alone at night. I'm glad we're out of there!

Oh yea, Jerry's already been down there since crack of dawn stripping away anything he can get. Those tires cost a fortune. I hope I get them on my truck.

Just make sure you and Jerry talk with the local prosecutor. Letting him know that you view this as a serious offense and with his influence the judge will not treat it as a minor crime and let them of with another slap on the wrist. The fact that they were on probation when the deed was done is proof enough they have little respect for the property of others.

Thank goodness they got them. And Jerry and the sherrif made quick work of it. Small town helped. I worry about this too as we're so darn isolated, guess I shouldn't put that out there.

But then they don't need to worry about the dog as they say , they better worry about ME! :new_2gunsfiring_v1: I have no patience with it all.

Good luck and hope they throw the book at them as an example. Maxine
