I went out to work Daisy tonight. She is such a good girl and to put up with such a doof for an owner makes her a saintly horse in my book. At least that is what I used to think. Well we had a great ride, she's working perfectly in her new bit and is getting the sweetest slow jog going now. I'm very proud of her. But what happened next goes beyond stupid--even for me.
:
I was showing off how well she'll side with leg pressure now and had her move toward the mounting block. She lined right up with it and was patiently waiting for me to make my usual smooth (not) dismount onto the block. Well I swung my leg over and Daisy decided to step away from the block so I missed the platform. But wait, it gets better. My sweater got hung up on the horn so as I made contact with the ground my sweater and all the other layers of clothing I was wearing pulled up over my head. By now I'm hearing giggles then hysterical laughter as Daisy starts to walk away. I was yelling WHOA, WHOA! to no avail and had to abandon my sweater and 2 shirts. So there I am standing there almost necked from the waist up, shirts hanging from the horn as she goes trotting away. I swear she was laughing at me too. Thank you God I WAS at least wearing a bra tonight
: Daisy was not about to let me catch her either so I'm cussing her out as she's trotting around being a brat trying to avoid being caught. I finally got her to stop but before she did my shirts dislodged from the horn and dropped onto the muddy ground. I grabbed my wet, filthy shirts and put them on inside out as fast as I could and then grabbed Daisy before she decided to roll with all her gear on. She was getting ready to go down when I got to her. What a fine mess that would have been--just the icing on the caketo this perfect evening. I am NEVER going to live this down! I'm really relieved though it was just me and one witness but yep it sure is funny now. It wasn't while it was happening though. Usually the barn is pretty active around that time of day with people getting off work to go ride too so I'm lucky the entire group wasn't there tonight. The barn owner had already heard all about it and called me a little while ago to comiserate and giggle at me too. Something similar happened to her a couple of years ago but she was at a horse show so it could have been worse. :bgrin
