Pennywort. Grows in ponds. Also grows in our corral since we live on springfed land. Horses won't eat it, goats won't even eat it. A cowboy named Cowboy told my husband this past weekend there is a way to kill it. Sadly their conversation did not get finished. He said cows won't even eat it. Has yellow flowers on it. It loves our property as much as I hate NE Texas in summer. Anyone know how to treat it without harming animals?

A dozen sticks of dynamite per acre should about do it.

Seriously, there are several chemicals that are to some degree effective against Hydrocotyle. 2,4,D, mecoprop, dicamba and triclopyr have all been shown to kill it, but it may take more than one application. Check with your local extension service to find out which are listed for pasture application in your area, and follow the label directions. Good luck, it's a toughie!

The aquatic product is called Eraser--made by Roundup. It is not called rodeo--sorry. I went out today to look on the bottle.

We have grass carp in our ponds to eat the filament algea, but I don't know if they will eat pennywort. We sprayed our pond several years ago before we got the carp. The penny wort hasn't come back. You might call your local extension office or a company that supplies pond fish and ask if the carp will eat it. They are non-reproducing carp. You only need one or two per pond.

Will certain types of fish eat it? Just wondering, I've never dealt with Penny Wort before.
