Had the vet out for a routine teeth floating and some shots on a geld that I had purchased. The gelding had been lame and when we saw him run we were amazed as it had looked like his leg was just dangling there as he ran. We the vet has said that he has peroneus tertius rupture and 4 months of rest should hopefully heal it.

Has any of you very come across this problem before?

I have seen 2 minis with this problem. It is also well documented in large performance horses. It is known to heal well in the large horses many of whom return to their previous level of competition. Oddly the 2 Mini cases I have seen never healed. It is not painful for them but creates a mechanical lameness which makes them unsuitable for showing. Try the stall rest and hope for the best.
