bumping... and thank you SO MUCH for sharing the info on boxwood... we had an issue with oleander here, it makes a great hedge and grows so well in our hot dry climate... there was a huge long hedge of it at our old house, fenced away from the horses and we were working on removing it... one of the kids forgot to chain the gate and our houdini horse opened it... another horse was munching leaves from the mulberry tree and got a bite of oleander in with it... the vet said he must have bit down, tasted it and spit it out, because if he had swallowed ANY of it he would be dead. (forgot to say this is a BIG horse, not a mini) - just the drop or two on his tongue was enough to almost kill him, he lost almost 200 pounds in less than a week, would not eat or drink, had IV fluids... VERY SCARY! thank God there seem to be no residuals, as this was over 8 years go... he is now 16 and still fine. there are many, many toxic plants out there... i have a file on my computer where i gather this info and will certainly add the boxwood info to it. if there is not a poisonous plants thread on the "best of" perhaps we should remedy that?
i am so very sorry that you lost yet another horse to this incident, what a tragedy for you. if i understand correctly it was fed deliberately... so i assume they knew it was poisonous? i will never understand how people can be so cruel...
{{{hugs}}} to you, it is so hard to lose one for any reason, this makes it so much worse.
