When you guys list a mini for sale and a potential buyer requests scanned papers what do you do? I know there is alot of scammers out there. I have my horses pedigrees listed as well as tons of photos and will gladly send updated photos but when they ask for a scanned pic of my minis papers I just give the numbers and let them know that everything is UTD. I feel uncomfortable sending even scanned papers to someone. Could they print them off and alter the photos and tell someone they are copies to another horse that they are selling? I have seen so much deception anymore it is hard for me to trust people as I have been scammed in the past on some things. When I question some potential buyers more I never hear back. Am I being overly concerned and paranoid?

I have never sold a mini, but that sounds a little fishy to me. If they are that concerned about papers, obviously they are a member of the association. Have you offered to give them the horse's registration number so they could do a look up?

Yes, as I stated I have no problem giving there registration numbers at all. It just seems strange that when I do not give the scanned document I never hear from them again and I have there pedigrees right on my website and can give a ton of references.

If you have posted there pedigree and given them the numbers then I dont see the need for the papers? If they are wondering about them being utd cant they just call the reg. office and ask?

You can scan the papers and email them the front and back, they could be checking to make sure the papers are in your name before they make an offer to buy or before they pay. I can check the online studbooks and it will tell me who the current listed owners are if it is updated, but I also know how to call either registry to find out who the current listed owner is. But they can not do much with a scanned, emailed version of your horses papers, it would be hard for a copier to be able to make it look original and all of the information is already on your website anyway. Even if they did change pictures, your still listed at the owner so it would require a transfer with your signature to complete anything else. Its always a hard call but seems you might be safe with this one. Oh what you could do is make a copy, put a big mark saying COPY on the copy and then scan and email it. That way it would have a big mark in the way and they couldn't use it.
